Dolphins pick up 5th year for Pouncey

Your totally right, the far superior option is to wait until he's suspended for 4, 8, or 16 games. That pro-bowl'ing will help us greatly then.

Not to mention how pivotal that pro-bowl center has been to our recent success, he clearly won us 2 or 3 games by himself. Oh wait...

If Pouncey was going to be suspended for any amount of games, Goodell would have already given the Dolphins some type of indication of it happening.

is that the right price???

Yeaap. I thought we could have signed him long term for cheaper than $7.4 million in 2015.

So based basically on rumors and suppositions without any legally definitive proof, if you're for trading Pouncey before his alleged behavior recurs, surely based on even more "connect the dots-ism" you'd advocate against a team drafting Jameis Winston for fear it's inevitable he'll pull a Darren Sharper ?

Do you honestly think that is inevitable? May I have a look at your crystal ball? You can look into his history where the dude was piss drunk at a party sporting a hat in favor of his murderous friend. Not good for PR and his image, but they can do far worse. The potential reward without a doubt outweighs the risk of keeping him on the roster.

His drug dealing and state subpoena weigh far more heavily on me then a hat. Not to mention his(while less damning but still concerning) intricate involvement in whatever borderline shaddy situations members of this franchise find themselves in.

Whats the difference between having the best center in the league and the 15th best in the league? Not much, which is why teams rarely use 1st round picks on centers.

...oh wait, sorry, i forgot what forum im on. Where lineman are the most important position in major sports and we have to use 5 first round picks to secure it. Well, make that 6, because we then have to start replacing the ones we let walk after their rookie deals are up('sup Long). Then 7...then 8...etc, etc, etc.

By the way, heres the crystal ball:

Now how about you return the favor and show me the image in your crystal ball. You know, the one that shows Mike Pouncey suddenly learn from his mistakes and become a part time pastor.

Theres always a cloud hanging over Pouncey. We get news every few months of something ridiculous going on with him. Its gotten past the point of "a kid just having fun" to the point of "hey, theres a bunch of smoke...is there a fire in his room?". Im not dealing with it for a damn center. Contrary to this forums myths, finding competent interior lineman isnt some lost art. This isnt the quarterback positions. Teams dont care much about getting the best one, they gravitate towards the best value.
Which is why Jacksonville set up a relatively reasonable contract with Alex Mack instead of making an absolutely absurd deal that the Browns couldnt match(but would have subsequently destroyed the Jags reputation). If that had been a quarterback, they would have gone full out. A center just isnt worth the trouble.

$7.4

Someone mentioned earlier that we can still sign him to longer term deal in order to lower hit.

Drug testing hasnt begun this season from my understanding.

It takes 1 slip up on Pouncey's part. As he hasnt struck me as the greatest of intellectuals, if i had to place a bet i know where im putting my money.

Alleged drug dealing.

Being issued a state, not federal, subpoena in someone else's case should not be a red flag but to each their own.

One of those "what can you do" moves. Ideally they will be using the extra year to find a trading partner. No doubt that isn't going to happen, but one can still hope.

Tired of headcase lineman. Finding a competent center who isnt in the midst of a controversy every few months simply isnt that difficult to find.

Get out to a 1-6 start or something and we may be able to recoup a second or maybe even a first for him with a midseason trade.

Players can be randomly tested up to six times during the off-season and since the league year has already begun, so has the drug testing.

I wouldn't surprise me if the Dolphins had already given Pouncey a drug test and was awaiting the results before picking up the option on his 5th year.
