Dolphins pick up 5th year for Pouncey

Drug testing hasnt begun this season from my understanding.

It takes 1 slip up on Pouncey's part. As he hasnt struck me as the greatest of intellectuals, if i had to place a bet i know where im putting my money.

Drug testing? You mean the test that happens once a year and the players know in advance when it will be?

Players can be tested for PED's at any time during the season but only once for recreational drugs.

But to add to your point, Pouncey could have already failed a drug test and have been placed in the substance abuse program. We just don't know.

I do however have no problem with them taking the 5th year option on him. This team needs to be in the business of keeping it's better players not letting them leave no matter how they were acquired. Plus Pouncey fills a definite need on this team. For those of you who think that an offensive line isn't important just look how them being piss poor last year greatly affected the season. Having a ****ty offensive line directly affects a play makers ability to make plays. A QB can't make throws while being under constant duress or lying on his back, a WR then can't catch the pass from the QB, and if there are no holes the RB's have no where to run.

Early this morning, a poster with the username "idrd1994" left an impassioned defense of Incognito on the FinHeaven message board. In it, he attacked both Martin and Mike Pouncey as "black brothers that do drugs on a regular basis,"

At one point, Incognito asks Martin if Martin went to Mike Pouncey’s house after going to a bar. Martin says he didn’t, saying “No drugs for me rest of season.” That comment could attract the NFL’s attention on the question of whether multiple members of the team had engaged in illegal use of drugs, recreational or otherwise.

I believe Richie admitted the drugs-Pouncey part on his twitter page before deleting the entire thing. This was before he became "a big wierdo" by beating the **** out of his car and checking himself into a health facility.

That makes no sense to me. The top contracts for centers is listed above. Top two do not count, and there is no way 3 to 23 come close to a $7.4M avg. Where did you get this, as I am fairly certain it is wrong. Do the math.

Picking up Pouncey's fifth-year option commits a little over $7.4 million to the 2013 Pro Bowl selection because he WASN'T one of the top 10 picks in the 2011 draft, which was the first draft class subjected to the new CBA salary structure for rookies. Pouncey was the 15th overall pick in 2011.

There is no separate designation for C. There is only a salary designation for OL - which includes LT, RT, LG and RG.

Much like the fanchise tag numbers, there is not one for C, there is only a franchise tag number for OL.

Alleged drug dealing.

Being issued a state, not federal, subpoena in someone else's case should not be a red flag but to each their own.

Its a red flag when your being investigated as a potential link.

According to Pete Thamel and Greg Bedard of SI.com, Mike Pouncey was served with a grand jury subpoena after Sunday’s game. Per the report, police are focusing on Hernandez’s “potential involvement in interstate gun trafficking, which is being investigated by several agencies in multiple states — at least Massachusetts, New York and Florida.”

Everything Pouncey has done is "alleged". And yet, those allegations keep coming. Every few months its something new. Let me guess: its all a complete misunderstanding and Pouncey is repeatedly being framed? And the proof for that is: he has a Dolphins logo on his helmet, thus hes innocent.

Pouncey deserves the benefit of innocence until proven guilty when it comes to his freedom. He does not deserve that benefit when it comes to receiving millions of dollars from this franchise. He keeps being involved in questionable circumstances. His pattern of behavior is absurd even in matters the team demands he participate in:

Pouncey and Turner bent the truth — if not lied outright — to Wells and his staff when pressed about details that others had corroborated.

After 4 or 5 questionable situations, im done. This just isnt worth the trouble for a center. Sell high. Get some value now, because we might not get any later.

That conversation made it sound like there were drugs at Pouncey's house. That doesnt make him a drug dealer, or even a drug user.

If he was a top ten pick, it may come close to that but, he was not, and it will be maybe half that. I really do not care what Omar said, and would be happy to wager I am right.

Where's the drug dealing?

Okay, i'll rephrase: he "allegedly" does drugs himself and his house has become the location in which players can receive drugs they wish to ingest as they party at any given time of the year.

I dont actually have video proof of Mike Pouncey handing people bags labeled "Drugs" as another person hands him a bag labeled "Money" while they each hold up 2 forms of identification with their other hand and relatives stand in the background nodding at the transactions as if confirming the identities. My apologies.

Hate to say it but I'm pretty sure Omar is once again flat out wrong. Based on everywhere I have looked the statements below describes how much Pouncey will make. Which based on the average is around $3 mil.
Players selected between picks 11 and 32 would receive a salary that is the average of the third to 25th highest-paid players in the NFL at their respective positions.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...-know-about-the-nfls-rookie-wage-scale/page/4

The option for top-ten picks is set at an amount equal to the salary of the Transition Tender (set in Article 10, Section 4 of the CBA) for the player’s fourth contract year. This salary is calculated, basically, by finding the average of the top ten highest Prior Year Salaries for players that played the same position. Positions are defined by the spot a player spent the most plays at during the previous season (Sec. 7, (a), 31).

For players selected between 11th and 32nd in the draft, the same calculation is used to compute their salaries. The difference is that the average of the third through 25th highest Prior Year Salaries for the player’s position equals the player’s fifth-year salary.

Just wanted to be sure you were clear, that you had no idea what you were talking about

True but, the CBA is specific on 5th year options being on players at their positions. It is different than what you mention.
