Dolphins points per drive stacked up against the rest of the NFL

Never said that. The qb does deserve some blame though. So many make every excuse to rid RT of any blame. He deserves some especially the last 2 games. I know the excuse if he doesn't take the next step will be something like. "Oline still sucks, or new system w Lazor etc"
There is a salary cap, so its hard to have elite weapons, a great Oline and a great defense. That is why QB play is so important, it can make an oline and weapons look better

Please find a post where I said Tannehill deserves none of the blame..... Please find a post where ANYONE said Tannehill deserves none of the blame.

That should improve with better o line play

2/3 of it is on the line and 1/3 of it is on the quarterback. Both need to play better and not leave it up to the defense to win the game for us.

I have harped sooooooooooooooo much about how are defense is on the cusp of elite and our offense has been dragging this team down... but people keep making threads about our run D and how to fix it and to get rid of kevin coyle and blah blah blah... blows my mind - our defense CARRIES us.

Agree. Fourth in opposing QB passer rating too. The defense is performing as Philbin envisions, though I'm sure he would love to have a dynamic MLB. If our offense could get us some nice leads once in a while and we can force them to abandon the run the takaways and opposing passer rating stats will be even better.

RT was injured those last 2 games as well, but fact doesn't support agenda, so I guess we'll let that go.

While it's fair to put some of the blame on Tannehill, his % of blame is miniscule compared to the other major issues. At least, that's how this posse-member sees it.

You can't "expect" him to be elite with all those other issues. THAT caliber of QB is very, very rare...not the norm or expected.

Stats like points-per-drive, PPG, YPA, QBR just show the result of the problems...they aren't the problem in and of themselves. We all know the offense, as a unit, stunk it up. These stats don't condemn RT, but critics try to champion that angle.

That is a new excuse, now he was hurt too.
Ryan Tannehill has shown us that he is nothing more than an average qb so far. We can't judge him on what he might do, bc nobody knows. So far, he has been average at best. He has some nice numbers for a 2nd yr qb but he failed miserably when it mattered most.
Wake up man stop making excuses for an NFL QB. He either will be a franchise qb or he wont. You and the rest of the Tanne fan club act like in order for a qb to win games you have to have an elite O-line, Geat running game, top flight receivers, and a top 5 defense.
The offense was bad last yr- the Oline was not good, and the qb was average, orb RBs are not any good. Elite qbs hide deficiencies, average ones make them stand out

Matt Ryan in 2013
Joe Flacco in 2013

Both of those QBs had the chance to overcome obstacles last season. One has won a SB and the other is considered a top 10 QB. How did it work out for them in 2013?

If the offense can improve by a lot then it should help our defense out as well. When teams get down, they throw more dangerous passes, sometimes big plays happen, but most of the time if you're not Tom Brady or Peyton manning, they end in turnovers. An increase in turnovers would really "turn" this team around! Bad joke. Go phins!

you're forgetting a crucial aspect here....the play caller! Do you think drew breed would be successful behind a horrid o-line and extremely predictable play calling with mediocre receivers? I'd guess probably not. Notice the one thing that all these great qbs have in common. A great coach and an inventive play caller. Sherman was not the right fit for tannehill. Tannehill is gonna succeed when they learn to use him on the move more.

Pay some f***ing attention once in a while...you may not look so stupid next time. Who ever said we need an elite O-line, great running game, top flight receivers and a top 5 defense? I sure as hell didn't, but way to try to go overboard with lies to defend your lame position. There's plenty times I've said IMHO we need just an average O-line and running game...never even mentioned the other crap you made up.

Go play in traffic.

I think he mentioned elite QB's in his post. I 'm sorry that you would use Matt Ryan and joe flacco as your examples of elite QB's. Those guys aren't elite but are just in the right situation and better than average. They both get passes for 2013 because they had taken their teams to the playoffs for 3 straight years.

If a mere criteria was added to this study, we would be near the top of efficiency. That criteria would be, "Drives of 20 yards or more".

Once our offense got a first down or two, we actually had a very high scoring percentage. This was also reflected by our tired defense and poor run defense compared to previous years. Our offense simply had too many 3 and outs or short possessions.

I was emphasizing that during the season last year, that we had far too many empty possessions. We seemingly trotted out there with little intensity level and no idea what we wanted to accomplish. Then we quickly got to 3rd and 10, which is never a positive scenario but we were weaker than most.

In any event, stats like this are why I've become increasingly worried about a team threatening unbeaten. I've tracked categories like this since the late '80s. Points Per Drive. Plays Per Touchdown. Points Per Pass Attempt. There is considerably greater separation on the high end. Numbers I've never seen until recent years, specifically 2007 with the Patriots. Well, the '98 Vikings also had freak numbers. Since those teams put up 30+ points virtually every game, the opportunities to defeat them are miniscule. The vast majority of teams simply can't keep pace for 4 quarters. The rules changes and application of them enable the 13+ regular season victories. And when you are that close without doing anything out of the norm, 16 is not too far away. Previously the offensive numbers pointed to 11+ victories. Now it's 13+. The media won't tell you that but it's real.

Fortunately the postseason is officiated differently and there are still a handful of teams that prioritize defense and contrast.

Miami was tied for 13th in FGs made and tied for 15th in TD passes, yet were 26th in total points. Why?

They were 27th in rushing TDs.
They had zero special teams TDs.
They had 2 defensive TDs.
Only 3 teams in the league scored fewer special teams and defensive TDs. 4 teams were tied with Miami.

These stats combined with the offensive numbers prove that Miami is simply not a very good football team.
Those three losses against the Jets and Bills indicate how far we need to go.

Our record against division opponents has been pathetic in the Joe era.
