Dolphins preparing themselves to pay Eugene Monroe top LT money

i wish i believed monroe was worth that kind of coin...

I agree with you. He my be the top free agent tackle out there, but not to top LT in the league by far. Heck, $10m a year puts him right up there with Joe Thomas.

desperate teams do desperate things...$10 mil per for any of these guys reeks of desperate...but you got to pay to play...and i guess anything that will shut up all these qb haters by keeping him clean and allowing him to make freaking plays works for me

just gonna cross my fingers i guess...

but even if we do this miami must get more athletic at right tackle also...no more play in a 10 foot box can't get out to anything ot's...that means can clabo...i dont care how pff graded him the 2nd half of last year...father time is catching up...when he hits rock bottom let it be for someone else...

Morgan Moses fits the scheme and can play both sides. If I went left tackle in free agency I'd go right tackle through the draft.

I never said Hickey was the GM. I blame it on the organization. He played pretty well for St Louis. Better than any oline we had on the roster last year... And he didn't leave because he didn't want to be here, he left because Ireland and Philbin didn't want him back.

Monroe isn't even a good run blocking tackle.... Not worth any of that money.

It's a vital piece of information to understand the origination is under new leadership when it comes to their GM. It may not fit into your POV, but that's your problem.

As far as Monroe, I don't have an opinion about him.

Agree, you always over pay for top free agents.

What are your thoughts on James Hurst? I would love to see Miami bring in Ryan Harris at RT as a stop gag for a year and draft Hurst. Basically redshirt Hurst in year one and let him completely heal from that nasty broken leg then let him compete in 2015 and possibly eventually take over at LT in a couple of years.

I like Hurst, played in a pro-style offense (ZBS) and a spread and did well in both. He's got good feet and long arms. He needs to get stronger, but that's not a big deal to me as he's not weak. I think before the injury he could have been a second to third round talent, but after probablt 4th or 5th.

I can see if I blamed it on Ireland, then yeah, you could say that and i'd agree, but I said the "Dolphins", as in the organization. It wasn't an attack on just the GM because we all know that the GM doesn't make the decisions on his own, especially here in Miami. As far as I know they are still here.. Philbin, Ross, Aponte etc.. The front office is still intact.

If this happens, then I believe that HIckey made four good decisions in a row: sign Grimes, let Soliai walk, let Starks walk, and sign a good left tackle.

I'd like why the piss poor Jags suddenly gave this guy away for peanuts.

Somethings wrong

Hopefully Hickey has learned from the Carl Nick's contract. Tampa Bay got burned for about $30 million in a contract for an OG. If you are going to spend that much, make sure you can get out of a contract is something goes wrong.

i dont know how you are gonna get out of a 5 year $50 million one with likely over half that guaranteed no matter what you do in the first 3 years...just a leap of faith i guess...i'm sure we will see some mega $15 mil plus 2nd year cap hit like we did with wallace though...

just gotta hope like hell that the player doesnt go belly up within the first few years of the deal at least...given the age with monroe it would seem like we'd be ok i guess but i don't much like paying not special special money in free agency...

This is complete bull****.. The dolphins are willing to break the bank for a Monroe, but let a better LT in Jake Long slip right through their grasps at less than that last year...

Are we still doing this?

I'm fine with a high salary, but its the guaranteed money that concerns me. I thinks its wise not to guarantee more than 2 years of a contract. In Carl Nick's case, he was guaranteed over $30 million.....that was a huge mistake by Tampa.

The contract would most likely be like the others we've seen lately, big for the first couple of years then a way out with a minimal cap hit
