It’s early of course. We are only talking about OTA’s. Joe Philbin said his conditioning could be better. Armando Salguero said that Moreno was “a little thick in the belly” VIA Twitter. South Florida heat will quickly take care of that for sure. The question of his conditioning though should be a bit alarming. It speaks to a players determination and drive to succeed.

As I stated earlier, we are very early in the process and Moreno will have the next two months to ready for his first camp in Miami. Weight room and dietary modification as well as normal daily workouts and Moreno should be fit and ready to go. Which then leaves us with the desire and drive. Moreno is playing on a one year deal so it is in his best interest to make the most of it in Miami if he wishes to make a statement for another team. Despite his very good season with Denver, the Broncos felt that he was expendable. Perhaps his off-season dedication may have been part of that reason. For now…too early to worry.

Certainly you would have loved to see him show up in shape and show the younger back what it takes to be a pro. If he isn't dedicated one a one year, prove it deal... What will he look like when he gets a long term deal? Overblown issue but interesting to watch.

Unless Moreno has another very good year I don't see him getting a long term extension. Running back is just not a prime position in the NFL right now, and the draft will be absolutely loaded with talent in 2015. I liked him coming out of school, but his pro performance has been littered with just good enough production.

This articles is full of assumptions with the throw in disclaimer of "It's early but".

This will be more alarming in late July. All I will say is, I hope Moreno realizes the type of weather he will be playing in. You can't outperform the South Florida humidity, and he should be training outside everyday to get his body, his lungs and his mind ready for it. Late May is nothing . . . mid July is going to be a bitch.

If Damian Williams plays to his potential, we might not care how Moreno's one year with us works out. Somewhat of a big if, tho.

Sounds like he came in a little out of shape. Unfortunately some players use OTAs as their chance to start getting back into shape, not something you want to see from a guy that is supposed to be a starter this year.

I thought for sure we'd draft a power back this year and maybe someone will emerge from the UDFA's we signed or after other teams make their roster cuts. One thing for sure is yes the 2015 draft is loaded and getting a great back next year should be a priority.

My hopes:

Damian Williams has a beast of a camp and becomes our #3 back.

The o-line creates holes up the gut for Lamar Miller.

Moreno blocks well for us and has at least 50 catches out of the backfield.

I like Moreno, but overall he's a pretty average back.

I would be concerned if he showed up to training camp out of shape. He still has plenty of time before it really matters.

Overblown?? How is it overblown?? This is the first I have heard of it, and it certainly deserves at least this thread. I didnt like the signing at the time and still don't. For those expecting him to put up any where near the numbers he did for ONE YEAR in Denver, he won't be running vs the same fronts he saw there. He has not had a great career and last year was by far his best. Before last year he had not gotten over 550 yards in a season since 2010 and never over 1000. He has more fumbles in his career than TDs.
He might challenge Miller but Miller is statiscally better at blocking, catching and running the ball than Moreno. I fully expect Miller to be the starter week one.

Call me crazy but im rooting for Orleans Darkwa to emerge.......

Running back is just not a prime position in the NFL right now

what kind of rb? the kind you line up by himself in the backfield and hand off to him 35 times a game OR the kind with above average run skills who can catch the ball AND block?

big diff. and you also didnt mention the type of offense said team runs and their style of rb needed.

some people have this thought about rb's having no value in the nfl is off base. it depends on the system your running. we have a pass first game right now in todays nfl. you throw 37 times and run 15.

but, there are teams out there who still are run oriented and still want that adrian peterson rb. THEN,,,,, you have a team like us who needs that run-catch-block rb and its a valuable position for this offense, the RIGHT rb anyways.

and no, there wont be any rb's selected #1 overall in the near future for sure, but, they are still valued. if not, no one would use up a roster space for one. you dont have to field an rb. and that being said, teams are ALL still using rb's and all have them on their roster. they just dont pay them 220 million dollars per game anymore.
