Dolphins re-sign Randy Starks

I'm so happy that Miami resigned Starks. If Mitchell pans out, Miami's D-line is just as good, if not better, but also cheaper and younger.

Hickey seems to have the golden touch. He's going right after these guys and they're saying YES. He's not posturing and playing games like the idiot that doesn't work for us anymore.

GM Dennis Hickey: “(Branden Albert) has always been a targeted guy since the first day I got here. As we did more research, it was clear."

Randy Starks deal (per @RavensInsider): 2 years, $10M w/ $5M guaranteed, $2M signing bonus; $3M 1st-year base salary guaranteed

### Dennis Hickey and Dawn Aponte ended up saving a lot of money by not making an offer to Randy Starks before Tuesday night. His two-year, $12 million deal contains a lot of non-guaranteed money and is well below the $7 million to $8 million a year he had hoped for.

5 mil a year. Plenty of money to address our needs. Dennis the menace Hickey

To me, this was as impactful on our future as not signing Long was last year. Forget Long's health, it's what Long meant to the OLine. That is what Starks is to the DLine.

Leaders come in many forms. At every position you need vets who have went to war for the team. You need leaders who lead by example, work ethic, consistency and command among others.

Signing Starks helps prevent the defensive version of Bully Gate. Let me be clear, I am not saying there is any bullying going on nor is that my point. My point is Starks is one of those guys on defense that makes guys get up and play the next down. It inspires men to shrug off an injury and play the next play. The "lunch pale" guys on your team are the guys everyone else looks for in the huddle when the world is crumbling around them. They keep a team on an even keel. They stabilize chaos by merely going back to the huddle and lining up the next play.

To me, Randy Starks was as important to this team as Grimes, but in completely different ways. Letting him go test the market while leaving the door completely wide open for him says a lot about the baby steps we have started taking to being a great organization.

These are the little moves that go unnoticed that build winners. This was a great move.

I am shocked at the lack of market for Starks. Good player.

Another good day of free agency. Keep it going Hickey.

Heard about Starks on the radio driving home and went.....YEAH! He didn't sound enthused on the soundbite, but I'll take it. Feel a lot better now about not losing both guys. Hickey's done well so far with all our signings.
