Dolphins seventh-round rookie receiver Isaiah Ford came on strong late in the offseason program, and he has his father to thank for a mentor who’s emerged in his life: five-time Pro Bowl receiver Steve Smith.
Earlier this year, Ford’s father called Smith, who retired in January, and asked if he could train his son.
Smith said he wasn’t interested in training players but “he watched my film and told me things I can improve on,” Ford said.
The Dolphins rookie and Smith now keep in touch.
Ford came on strong late in the offseason program and said there’s a reason for that.

So much talent at the wide out position. If either of these guys steps up can we possible trade one of our top 3 for draft picks? ? I would hate to lose any of our top 3 guys, but I guess there is always a price, right? There are only so many balls to go around with expected increase to our TE's and running backs this year.

Parker, Landry, and Stills bring things to the table that Carroo / Ford can't...

They seem like solid backups or guys to fill in. I hope we keep grant tho, he is lightning in a bottle and with more chances / experience could get much better. I think ford may be destined for the practice squad. Probably Morgan too

I remember being called crazy saying Jakeem and Carroo might lose their jobs to Ford.

After watching him play at what seemed like forever, he made me a believer.

Beating up on my Canes every time they played was enough for me.

I hope Ford makes it on the 53 (Good receiver). Special teams is key for him.

I love Jakeems skill set except fumbling and just being a KR will hinder his chances of making the squad.

He may make it. I just don't think it's a sure thing like some others.

Ford is legit. Plays bigger than his size

I like Ford and hope he does well, however just two weeks ago when the team was in ota's people were wondering if Ford would hold off Drew Morgan and make the 53 man roster. Now after two weeks of doing nothing people have him pushing for the 4th receiver role. That's why we have to take it all with a grain of salt and just wait to see how it plays out in August.

One thing Omar Kelly said a few weeks ago that really sticks with me is that the Dolphins seem to have given up on the idea of Grant as a viable slot receiver option and seem to be using him outside and in small doses at various receiver positions. I know it came from Kelly so it may or may not be correct, but if it's true I have a hard time seeing Grant on the team as a boundary/gimmick receiver. If you don't have confidence in him playing the slot than I think he's fighting an uphill battle that would take a big training camp to justify a regular season job.

10 receptions... 145 yards....2tds
in 3 years is hardly what I call "beating up on my Caines"

I see it as maybe them trying to find more places he could play at, to help him earn his place on the team outside of being just a returner. He's got insanely more upside than any of our other bottom receivers, no harm to try to find room for him.

I'm all for trying to see what he can do outside of being a returner. I actually see him as a receiver who can also return instead a returner who can play receiver. However, at his size, if you're not comfortable with him in the slot than I think he becomes a long shot to make the team.

I predict that Grant will not make the 53. Small and fumbles too much. Keep Ford and Morgan. But I'm usually wrong, so there's that

My hope is Miami can find a slot corner or 3rd down running back that returns punts once other teams start making their roster cuts. I would like to have the punt return job come from another position and just keep 5 receivers Landry, Parker, Stills, Carroo and Ford. Actually with Parker and Stills picking up more of the receiver slack I don't have a problem with Landry being back there half the time.

Stringfellow the rookie reciever from Mississippi State is another possible talent on our roster. To bad we don't have this same issue on the oline and linebacker.
