The Dolphins are denying an ESPN report that new GM Dennis Hickey got only a 2-yr. deal. They say it is longer than that

Would have been better to align with Philbin's deal. Maybe Aponte snuck in an out-clause after two years

Makes a lot of sense. I kind of thought the 2-year contract wasn't a strong show of confidence, and it's pretty common to offer 4 years.

I was also hoping it really was a 2-year deal. I had somehow connected Hickey with Philbin and hoped that, by some stretch, that Philbin had really pushed for this guy...so that if Philbin goes, Hickey would also naturally be gone.

It would be upsetting if Philbin was the next to go and Hickey was sticking around... for no good reason.

Give they guy a chance before you say s**t like this smh

I will give him a chance. However, I liked the idea that he was linked to Joe contractually to attempt to turn the team around. Also, I am not sure why you want him longterm and setting the course for the franchise for years to come. I do not think he is that established that he needs a long commitment.

These were my final thoughts on the selection, btw.

When has having a contract ever prevented Ross from firing someone? Just because Joe and Hickey's contract dont have the same exact years doesnt mean ****

So...

Two years with team option for year 3.

To be fair, he holds on to people that should be fired and gives them extensions.

Hayden , it really doesn't matter if Hickey's contract is tied to Philbin's because they both can be **** canned at any time.

I can't confirm exactly what's in contract, but it's more than 2 years. I'm thinking a 3 year deal for Hickey.

I can also confirm that Dolphins GM Hickey's deal was more than the 2 years initially reported by national outlets.

Not that it really matters -- Sparano and Ireland both left the team with a year left on their deal.

Well than the length of this initial contract doesn't really mean that much IMO, if he were to let's say go ahead and extend him in the end anyway after the 2 yrs. even if we at that time, don't think he should.

Ross has shown almost too much loyalty to his employees.

Disappointing. It means that should Hickey not work out, we're going to be playing front office leapfrog again.
