Dolphins sign Delmas

I agree with many on the concerns with the fit, but at least he's a decent and affordable 1yr stop-gap for hopefully the next safety they are drafting/grooming for the spot. If we use the cap for other positions that we need instead of paying big bucks for Byrd or someone else, then I feel a lot better about this deal. We'll know in a few days.

When at your best your greatest strength is not making horrible mistakes, you still aren't really that good. Clemens was everything I hated about this Dolphins defense for years. He could be good with no ability to be great and when given the chance to win games by making a play, he whiffed, resulting in losses snatched from the jaws of victory. I'd trade a couple bad plays on defense for a couple plays that actually win games, like catching INT's thrown right in your hands. Clemons didn't give up gamechanging plays, but the plays he constantly failed to make when given the opportunity were gamechanging plays for the other team. Just like Gibril Wilson going fifty yards arm in arm with Shockey, Clemons will have a defining play for me, and that is being caught on his heels when he had the angle on Antonio Brown at the end of the Steelers game, only to be lucky as **** that Brown actually stepped out of bounds barely when it wasn't even necessary. Clemons couldn't make plays to save his life, and a guy like that limits the ability of your team to win games. He's not the only reason why we never had a winning season with him here, but the characteristics of his play symbolized why that was the case.

I'm glad to see this team not re-sign mediocrity and instead look somewhere else.

He is much better then Clemons. Clemons was soft on run stop. Delmas is a run stop beast. There tie is pass coverage but Delmas is a hitter. Great move loving the GM already.

I am stoked by the move. Delmas is the type of guy to take Peterson on one on one. We need a hitter like Delmas. He makes plays on balls and actually catches them. he is capable of running one back. Byrd is obviously better, but this guy is a big upgrade over Clemons.

Seems like most people on here don't like the signing because it not Byrd, rather than it's Delmas. Personally think this is a great move, filling a gap for a great price with a solid player, injury issues only concern but the main reason we got him for that low, will need back up either through late rounder or someone already on the roster. This frees money to spend on the gaping holes rather than putting a lot of money on plugging a small gap.

i don't disagree but do you guys think louis delmas plays that antonio brown in space catch and run any better??? i don't think he's as fluid laterally as some of you do...but i havent paid much attention to him last year at least cause i wrote him off for medical prior

just asking...not trying to crap in anyones cheerios...it's definitely a low risk move provided you have a plan b

anybody at least wondering why detroit would move on over a max $3.5 mil one year contract???

Because they cant even afford a $3.5 million contract right now. They are only $8 million under the cap right now, and will likely use all of the just on the rookie wage pool. As of right now, the cant even afford to sign 1 single free agent without cutting someone else. They just signed like 6 guys last week to 1 year minimum deals just to fill out the roster. They couldn't sign Delmas even if they wanted to.

I'm fine with a 1 year deal for Delmas. I don't understand why people are missing Clemons - a guy who plays deep in case the other 10 guys cant stop the ball carrier. Clemons was not the kind of safety we need.

come on man...any team if they want can find a way to work up a one year $3.5 mil max contract if a guy reaches all his incentives...they didn't want to...pretty much what it comes down to...detroit could have worked around this number easy...

i dont know if the degenerative thing is legit or not but if it is that would be plenty of reason for a team to walk away especially in a safety draft that offers options in the first 3 rounds and plenty of em

as for clemons i'm not bothered in the least...other than the fact that he did suit up every game...guy was not a playmaker and never was gonna be...

Looking at the Detroit cap (http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/detroit-lions/cap-hit/) and its a pretty tough call - at least 1 starter or 3 backups would have to be cut to afford a $3.5 million contract. They have a lot of high salary guys, and a lot of minimum contract. Tough call for Detroit. The have some young guys at S too.

or could restructure some of those inflated numbers guys...probably one of em would have been more than enough...not sure i read that right but if the cap hit would have been only 500k to keep him in 2014 and they decided to move on that's a flag

walk away over peanuts pretty much

Just saw, the lions are pursuing James Jones.

ahh #2 wr to pair with megatron...god knows they've been looking long enough...good red zone guy also

Jets are inquiring on him too.

For the last 2 years, he was on the injury report every game for his knee(s). Its likely not going away, but it also doesn't look like it slowed him down.

Not sure you read that right either. Cap hit would have to be at least the minimum wage for an NFL player, and Delmas' minimum wage is greater than $500K.

did he practice no let me correct that fully participate during the week or just in walk thru type stuff???

jones needs to be paired with a true #1 to get the most bang for your buck...jets don't have that...would be less productive there imo...especially adding in the qb
