Dolphins sign Jaguars wr Stephen Williams

I'm hoping along with ya. A grizzly old vet at RG to lend a hand would not be a bad thing to help James along in his first year. There are none out there now but, I belive there will be one or two availabe in late cuts. This would make me feel a whole lot better on our OL this year.

Agree.

One thing -- with the cupboards SO bare on OL (last year: Starters who had no business starting, and behind those starters, pure crap) and hurting at both left and right Tackle, the depth has to be a concern. Right now, with James starting RT and Albert LT who is the swing tackle who will fill in should either go down? Fox? Who is a huge question mark himself? In this league, solid backups often are the ones who win you the playoffs. And with the cupboards bare, this is going to be our Achilles heel. I think it's clear that Hickey sees the problem. His off-season moves have been nothing if not to improve the OL not just 2-5 but 2-8. But it's tough in a league with increased emphasis on OL. Everyone is scouring FA and waiver wires. And some teams have a lot more bargaining power than the Phins (one reason why NE is able to gamble with drafts: They get their choice of FAs and also get the best compensatory returns when vets walk. They can also pay vets less b.c. they almost guarantee playoffs and SB runs. Miami has to pay top dollar on the other hand. Top dollar and a promise to get better, lol).

So, yes. Another solid vet guard of swing tackle/guard would be great. And IF THOMAS is still crap, the need for such a move just went up dramatically.

I'm beatin my own dead horse here in believing that Hickey could have done more in FA on the OL. There was some substantial talent there, which he did not want to pay for or, possibly over pay for. He saw that when he "begged" the guy from NO to come for a visit. I belive he screwed up with $16M in cap space still sitting in the bank. IF the OG's we now have play as well or better than a guy or two he could have signed, I was dead wrong but, don't think so.

Our advantage in late cuts id having the $16M left in cap room, and over 90% of players are looking for the money.

Agree totally. I too wanted more out of FA on the OL.

However, once it seemed like Hickey was gonna have to pay every single FA substantially more to come here, it was writing on the wall that he was waiting for the draft to fix it. Right then and there we should have seen the James and Turner picks coming (or similar).

No way you were wrong, imo. You were right. Hickey just believed he could get better or equal talent in the draft. At least more affordable talent. At some point though, you have to overpay while starting your drafting for the future.

We still need to pick up a guard or swing player on the OL, imo. By the time late cuts come, could pick up a decent player. We need to be better 2-9 on the OL. Right now I'd say we're better 2-6 or 7. Interesting to see how Larsen and some of the other UDFA OL play out. Really, really need to protect Tannehill this year. Terrible way to develop a QB, throwing him out there w. a trash OL.

Tannehill has talent. Could be the only true playmaker that Ireland drafted. Need to take care of him, imo.

Last time i checked yards don't win games Points do. How many points did Hartline score? until we have a WR corps that can score TD's I say we keep signing them until we find em.

...what? I mean...just...what? What are you talking about?

Like Hickey, it seems like you dont get it. Listen: Mike Wallace got 930 yards last season. Thats pretty good. Now imagine if he got 100 more yards. Crazy right? Insane. Nuts. Well guess what man, we already have a player who did that. Twice. Brian Hartline put up back to back 1k yard seasons. When the ball was thrown to him, he caught it. You know what thats means? Hes a playmaker. You dont replace playmakers like Hartline. That would hurt Tannehill.

Hickey needs to stop wasting our owners money on bust signings and understand what he has on this roster. He also needs to understand what he doesnt have. Most notably: guards. We still dont have any. If we dont give Tannehill time to throw Hartline might not get his 3rd straight 1k yard season. Now, i know its rough on Hickey, he inherited the line that Ireland neglected for years, he needs 2 more first rounds before our line is finally fixed. But still, Hickey shouldnt be throwing away our money on a position thats fixed. And he should be reprimanded by our owner for essentially throwing away our 2nd round pick on Landry. What a waste of a pick, we didnt need him. Hickey is running this team into the ground.

Ya that 49.6 yards/game career average and only 10 TD's in 5 seasons just screams "playmaker".
