Dolphins sign shelley

I think it's a bit early to say what Dallas is capable of. We invested a third round pick on him, second on Taylor, and another third on Will Davis. These midround picks aren't garbage picks, they're valuable and they have to develop and contribute, like now. Second year in the league, full offseason to get up to speed. It's time. We will not be able to build a team only through free agency, sorry this isn't the MLB. We need our midround picks to contribute and become solid to great for us.

So I'll be holding out judgment on Thomas till after this offseason.
Your logic is good. We should be expecting all 3 to make a contribution, but the only one who showed anything was Davis making interceptions in training camp. Thomas needs to show something that shows some potential pretty quickly or he will get cut.

Sounds like he using us to get a higher pay day from the team he wants to play for.......seen this act before......make him an offer if he leaves it take the offer off the table....refuse to be used

Looks like it.

Walked out from Giants and Pats. Seems he will go to highest bidder or already has a team in mind, just hoping the competition will drive up the price.

...If he goes to the Pats he's just going to sit the bench and be there for depth. So if he wants to start I would think it's between us and whatever two other teams are interested in him. We offer a chance to start.

Would Belichick make him sit on the bench if he wins the job in training camp? See, that's what I don't get about this line of thinking. If our starters are not good enough to start for the Pats, how the heck are we ever going to beat the Pats? I'm sick of settling for guys who would ride the bench on the best teams.

Smith is best known as a run blocker and most scouts believe he's a better fit in the ZBS, Patriots do not run a ZBS and they were already an excellent rushing team last year. It's a matter of Smith being a better scheme fit for us than the Pats. He's not as good of a scheme fit for the Pats so he would probably not start.

Just because a player may not start for another team doesn't make him the wrong player for us. It's about scheme. Wade Smith was horrible for us when he was here playing OT. He gets picked up by Houston, moved to Guard in a ZBS and had a very solid career...dude was a turnstile in a Dolphins uniform.

Sadly, not much FA options available. It's either a border line starter or....D Thomas?

Then again, I wouldn't judge that theory on top lines. Eagles O-line is stacked, so to say someone wouldn't start on Eagles line so we shouldn't consider them? Not exactly fail proof.

Yeah, I'm with the "this offer is good so long as you remain in the building" line of thought. That scumbag Ryan Clark tried to use us for leverage to stay in Pittsburgh, and apparently with his admission of wanting to go nowhere, that's what Monroe attempted to do, but the league, including Hickey was too savvy. If he leaves the building, it's almost guaranteed to just be more of an exercise in futility

I think we sign them both today.

At this point just seal the deal.

Finnegan will be solid depth. Doubt he starts.

Shelley will be a camp battle for Guard position with Garner and Rookie draft pick. (Unless D. Thomas wakes up and joins camp battle).

I can see us rolling with

LT - Albert
LG - Shelley/Garner/Rookie (B. Thomas 2nd-3rd Round)
C - Pouncey
RG - Shelley/Garner/Rooke (B. Thomas 2nd-3rd Round)
RT - Z. Martin (First Round Pick)

Not exactly stellar line but can't be worse than last year.

Just because he was a third round pick doesn't mean it wasn't a garbage pick. Consider who picked him

He was a grabage pick in Dallas Thomas! Terrance Armstead was there for the pickings in the third, and we passed on him twice. Even trade picks with the Saints and they took him. I was like WTF!!!!!

im surprised Wharton hasnt been picked up yet. But this Smith guy seems to have potential, but lets not forget Sam Brenner showed promise too.

So you would expect the Pats offer for a player who doesn't fit their scheme, to be comparable to our offer for the same player who fits our scheme and we expect to start?
