New Miami Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey likely is spending these next few weeks being briefed not only on players to watch at the NFL Scouting Combine, but also his own players.
The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson got a taste of some of the evaluations Hickey might hear from Dolphins staffers.
One of the most interesting positions to monitor in Miami this offseason will be running back. The combination of Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas was disappointing last season, to put it kindly.
"They're a good complement to each other, and we like Miller's speed and explosiveness," one Dolphins staffer told Jackson. "Miller has the higher ceiling, but you wish he ran with a more physical (style). And both have to improve as blockers."

We need a new starting RB.

I'm starting to lean towards bringing in Toby Gerhart.

He runs with good power and great leverage and is always moving his feet forward and falling forward while carrying the football.

Plus he has tons of mileage left on his body and is starving for a chance to get out of Adrian Peterson's shadow.

His physicality is sorely needed in this offense.

ie doesnt run thru contact worth a hoot...good luck changing it

This.

Actually neither of them do. I have watched Thomas time and time again either go turtle belly up at the first hint of contact or literally stand still.

Either you have it or you don't! If he doesn't have it at this point in his Career then it ain't happening.

Miller will be fine, just give him an O-Line that produces ANY type of hole. People forget how the crappy O-Line affects the run AND pass game.

Maybe he had injuries that held him back, but I saw PLENTY of plays in many games where he ran right up to the hole

then slowed the F down because there were defenders out there. If there is no one around he hits the hole, but otherwise it sure as hell

looks like he is tentative more times than not. I would give other RB's the opportunity to show what they got and make a BETTER claim to the position.

Lamar Miller could still be a damn good RB. He needs to significantly improve his blocking protection of the QB (maybe he needs to join Egnew's martial arts training course).
I think that we could well pick up a solid experienced RB in free agency. This could be good competition for Lamar.

Agree that it's stating the obvious. I'm very disappointed in Miller. And while I do know that there's been few holes for him, and with a better O line he can really explode through there, I'm also tired of seeing the lack of effort and zero physicality. He plays this game like he's trying to preserve his body and stretch his career out, or something.

There were some guys in practice that worked really hard like that Jonas Gray we cut, that I liked. He was just a short yardage back, though.

just trowing this out there....with lazor bringing in a lot of the philly offensive style (i think) to Miami, will this help Miller perform better? I honestly don't know, looking for your thoughts on that.? Miller is no L. McCoy but would you think the running styles and receptions out of the backfield are similar? I don't think McCoy was much of a smash mouth runner.

i know the OL plays a very big part but would you consider them the same type of runner?
