Dolphins struggle to score TD's and the importance

Miami leads the AFC in games with 1 or less offensive TD (7)
Miami also leads the AFC with victories in games with 1 of less offensive TD (2)
AFC teams have scored 1 or less offensive TD's in 63 games this season
The record of those teams is 11-52 (17%)

Records of AFC teams when scoring 1 offensive TD or less

Miami 2-5
Tenn 1-6
Clev 0-6
Oak 0-6
Jags 0-6
Jets 0-5
Buff 2-2
S.D. 1-3
Hou 1-2
K.C. 1-2
Cin 1-2
Pitt 0-3
Denver 1-1
N.E. 1-1
Balt 0-1
Indy 0-1

Notice that the 6 playoff teams only have 12 of the 63 total games with 1 or less TD scored and even those playoff teams are 3-9 in those games.

After Cincinnati and Pittsburgh both scored a single offensive TD and lost this weekend that now makes AFC teams 11-54 when scoring a single offensive TD or less.
The AFC teams that made the playoffs are now 3-11 when scoring a single offensive TD. You just can't win with that offensive output no matter how good your defense is.

When I created this thread it wasn't to bash the offense as some of you may think. It was to provide some prospective to those with open eyes and show that it not all the defenses fault when we lose.

It was interesting to see that in 3 of the 4 games this weekend the 1st team that got to 3 TD's won the game and helps validate my theory. The 4th game Indy only scored 2 but added 4 FG's so it was essentially like scoring 3 TD's
The only way were are going to make the playoffs and win when we get there is to find a way to score 3 TD's per game CONSISTENTLY.

Went back to compare Sherman with Tannehill (2012-13) to Lazor with Tannehill (2014) in this area.

Sherman's offenses were more consistent at scoring 2 or more TD's while averaging less points per game than Lazor's.

In 2012 we had 5 games where we scored 1 or less TD's offensively and went 0-5
In 2013 we had 4 games where we scored 1 or less TD's offensively and went 0-4
In 2014 we had 7 games where we scored 1 or less TD's offensively and went 2-5

Lazor's offense has almost as many of these 1 TD games in 1 season as Sherman had in 2.

So in Ryan's tenure here we have 16 of 48 games where we only score 1 offensive TD or less and are 2-14 in those games.

In the other games where we score more than 2 TD's on offense we are 21-11

Yes, we are definitely gaining more yards and controlling the clock with Lazor. Need to figure out how to consistently get it into end zone.

Only 16 TD's were scored last weekend in the 4 wildcard games. That is way below the 5.2 average. We were due for a game with more than the average. 5 in the first half.

Now after 10 playoff games completed there have been 53 TD's scored (5.3 per game right at league average)
Both Green Bay and Indy were eliminated when they only scored 1 offensive TD.
That makes 5 of playoff teams being eliminated when scoring a single TD. GB almost pulled a miracle but 1 TD gets you 0-5 in playoffs.
How fitting of a game to help validate my Original post. Defense finally gives in after offense fails to score TD's.
In 9 of the 10 playoff games the winner scored 3 or more TD. Only one game was won with only 2 TD's
The minimum number of points required to win in the playoffs has been 24
You need to have a good defense but you also need to score multiple TD's on offense to win in the NFL consistently.
