Dolphins vs Bills Pre-game discussion

I wouldn't rush to judgement on that. If Mario does get his paws on Tannehill once, it wouldn't be the end of the world, just the end of a down (and we had 58 of those last year). I think James needs to be left to see how he handles Williams. I suspect he'll be capable enough mirroring him and washing him backfield, without ever being fully in control!

I also would hesitate using an in-line TE too much and reducing our receiving options. Where we'll hurt the Bills is attacking their secondary, imo. Moreno versus their o-line looks like a good matchup and I'd hope we can draw their LBs and safeties in to create space and single coverage for our receivers. Clay could be a big factor there and I don't want to waste him on the line.

Obviously, if Mario is chewing James up, we'll have to react, but for me the starting gameplan should be to let the O-line survive on its own wits, get Buffalo respecting the run early and hit them with Clay and the WRs when the box fills up.

I hear what you're saying and there is wisdom in it, but I still think Mario coming free on the QB is a recipe for a turnover and an injured quarterback.

Well, I'm 40 ... and outside of the 90's we've always been much bigger rivals with the Jets. Sorry to bust your bubble.

Uhm, do you remember the entire 70's???? Ya know, what started the rivalry?

And then half of the 80's when Kelly came from the USFL?

And then the entire 90's?

You might want to read up a little bit before you continue to make wrong comments. This link covers 4 decades of rivalry. Read up -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bills–Dolphins_rivalry

Watched him FSU...EJ gonna EJ...he's a mental midget

You still didn't really explain what that means...

EJ's main harm is that he won't pull the trigger.

He'll throw 50 2 yard checkdowns and lose the game rather than gun it down field and throw an INT.

He's a pu$$y and not a good QB. But i'm not sure what "EJ gonna EJ" could possibly mean. He doesn't really do much.

Bad decisions, too often will miss the open WR, tends to play his worse in bigger games...dealt with antics for 2 years...not a gamer.

There was no rivalry in the 70s. Your bum ass team literally didn't win a game against Miami in that entire decade.

That's not a rivalry, that's a worse bullying scandal than Jon Martin and Richie Incognito.

Agreed with all of it.

Except for the bad decisions.

At least in Buffalo. As I said, he's more likely to throw a 2 yard checkdown than force a ball downfield.

Read the link kid.

Dolphins fans ESPECIALLY looked forward to BIlls games to see if they could keep the streak going. They would invade Rich stadium with signs counting the streak.

I haven't even talked about the back and forth years of the 60's.

Only go by what I remembered at FSU...he may have cleaned up the bad decisions...

.

That doesn't sound like a rivalry. That sounds more like a professional poker player being excited to see his favorite whale..

Don't worry, he still sucks.

Just in different ways.

I wondered what the hell people saw in Gabbert (and I'm pretty sure I wasn't alone). Not everybody was surprised when he showed himself up as a chickens**t in the NFL.

However, I for one couldn't say I was always convinced Manuel would prove himself a pu$$y. I'm not convinced he's destined to always be a pu$$y either. I don't think it's straightforward with Manuel. I think he has a lot of tools and - when I've seen him interviewed - he impresses me. He just doesn't project as a bust to me yet.

There's no doubt he has to get his head out of his *** and play a bit more football. But he's young and inexperienced and maybe needing a different kind of coaching/encouragement to come out of his shell.

Anyway, I just watched the Bills-Bears game and:

The good news:
1) Wake is going to abuse the Buff right tackle. It's going to be ugly on the strongside, Starks or no Starks. The line in general is OK, nothing more. The RT is a problem though.
2) McKelvin was horrible. He gave Marshall/Jeffrey a ridiculous cushion - basically handed the underneath and a number of 1st downs to them, but even then got turned and burned. You cant' call yourself a modern NFL offense if you don't hang 100yards on that kid. Buffalo has more options, esp with Gilmore coming back in (?), but any snap McKelvin is on the field is a win for us. Their safeties don't look as good as last season when Byrd was there, but CB Graham and Williams made some nice plays. There are yards to be won against the secondary though, no question.
3) They miss a good tight end. Chandler is passable in a "Fasano on a good day" kinda way, but they don't really threaten you over the middle with size. Woods is a very versatile piece for them, but he's not a matchup nightmare. Watkins did look threatening, but whereas NO really worked Cooks into the game and played to his strengths, the limitations of the Bills O and the QB didn't really help spring Watkins into a gamechanging role.

The bad news
1) Dareus and Williams as an interior tandem is a pocket-wrecker. Tannehill will be pressed to get it out quick, which is a shame when we have great deep options against that dodgy secondary. Some designed rollouts to the blindside could be needed, as Tanny is horrible in a collapsing pocket.
2) Despite losing Alonso and giving up a decent chunk of yards to Forte, the LB corps looks much better than ours.
3) Spiller showed me more than I thought he would. He's improved between the tackles and has much better vision than Miller has when he gets around the corner. I would say he's ahead of Miller and Jackson is slightly behind Moreno, in terms of comparing the two committees.
4) Dan Carpenter looked immaculate with his kicking and you can bet he still wants to crush us. He's definitely a better kicker than ours, until proven otherwise.

I posted this in another thread, because I didn't see this thread....

I watched a condensed version of the bills game last week. They run a lot of 3 wr sets and bunch formations as well. They love to run out of them. So Miami will have to watch for that.

Chicago exposed that the Bills are vulnerable to the screens and flat routes, which can be run effectively if your Miami.

As I see it Chicago lost the game last week by trying to throw Deep all the time, allowing Cutler to hit and Miss. Even in OT instead of trying to grind it down the field with short passes and runs
they tried to go Deep. Hugh mistake... every time they were patient Buffalo couldn't stop them it was only when they got greedy that they stopped themselves.
And where was Mario Williams last week? HE only had one sack, big deal.

Also Miami should note that Buffalo is not exactly injury free either.
Their secondary is banged up.

Wlliams, Aaron S Head LP
Gilmore, Stephon CB Groin FP
Meeks, Jonathan S Neck LP
Rivers, Keith LB Groin DNP

Prediction - Miami Wins 30 - 23

Interesting the lengths some people will go to try and tell you how you should feel, no?

We do hate the Bills, they're just not our rival.

I think both the Dolphins and Bills are trending up and it could develop into the rivalry of the AFCE. I thought Brady had one good year left but maybe he's already ready for pasture after what we saw week one. By next season the AFCE will be up for grabs and whichever teams end up having the best QBs will become the rivalry du jour. That might even be the Jets because they're in for a complete makeover next offseason.

Junk in 3...2...1...
