Dolphins vs Marlins Question?

since the marlins have been in existence the Dolphins haven't even reached a title game and while you made the playoffs in '94, '95, '97-'01, you have only made it once since then so you have not been very good w/o the championships. you haven't been marlins bad outside of a year or 2 but I think you'd have to take the championships.

you guys were so lucky to have a coach like shula, he always had you as a playoff caliber team. He didn't win any SBs from 1974-1995 but he always had you in the hunt which is amazing.

Arguably the greatest coach in NFL history. Of course we were lucky to have him. I certainly don't expect to have another of his caliber during my lifetime, but I am hoping for another good coach to make us perennial contenders at some point. I'm hoping it's Philbin.

Every team has its heyday in the NFL. Miami is a great destination with wonderful climate, entertainment, and no state taxes. We have a willing and wealthy owner. Our time will come again.

Your Jets have a lot of those positives too, so it will happen for them eventually as well. I would be ecstatic if Miami and New York were the best two teams in the division every year .... but we will have to wait until Darth Belichick leaves methinks.

Sent from my phone, so please forgive any typos.

I would take the Marlins 2 championships over a decade of mediocrity.

The Marlins are much worse run organization than the Dolphins. However, for all of the short term expediency regularly displayed by selling off players to cut payroll, the one thing that the Marlins have done a better job is recruiting terrific young talent. It has happened too many times to be just good luck.
In contrast, while Miami gets the odd good draftpick to succeed, we haven't had the scouting skill to identify the equivalent of Miguel Cabrera as a teenager and recruit him.

If you've been in South Florida during these championship runs by teams like the Heat and Marlins in the last 17 years . . . you realize the electricity the entire area feels. It's brought feelings that I just have not been able to experience as a Miami Dolphins fan. Now the Dolphins are my favorite professional sports franchise so my heart is with them but no question I'd take the Dolphins winning 2 championships in the last 17 years mixed in with garbage seasons the Marlins have had.

Hell we've made the playoffs once in the last 12 years . . . maybe we've been closer to .500 than the Marlins during that span, but they have a ring . . . we haven't been to the NFL semifinals (conference championship) in 22 years.

Thanks, I'm depressed again.

No.

I'd rather feel like we have a shot every year, than watch the team play like garbage for a decade between championships. I'm a Mets fan, Rangers fan, Magic fan, and obviously a Dolphins fan. (Moved from NY to FL almost 30 years ago.) While the feeling of winning a championship is AMAZING, toughing out horrendous season after season absolutely sucks. I've been through the cycle with all of my teams, but the Fins always saved the day, until recently that is.

It wasn't that long ago when the Fins were the winningest team in the NFL (since the merger.) I remember the pride I took, and still take, in being a Fins fan. Being the laughing-stock of the league for long stretches of time is no fun, and honestly, it forces you to distance yourself from the team, because, let's face it, nobody likes to lose.

As sweet as a championship is, I'd rather watch awesome football (or whatever sport) year in and year out than get a trophy every 10-15 years.

I'd like to see Miami actually in the Super Bowl once. Just once. **** the rest. I'd trade two Spurs titles for a Dolphins SB win this year.

Just two ? I would trade all the Heat and Marlin titles for a couple Dolphin SB victories. Both the Heat and Marlin's are my teams but the Fin's will always be number one in my heart. I'm old enough to have lived through the Fin's glory years in the 70's and nothing can compare.

I would NEVER trade out the Marino years. They were so special, even without a title. Since then, yeah I would take the very bad with two Championships over what we have done.

thing is, we haven't played "awesome football" consistently in two decades

Would you take very bad with the very good over what the Dolphins have done?

The thing with the Marlins is that while they were very good a few years, they didnt have to be very bad the other years, but instead opted to liquidate the team to save on payroll. So to answer your question...no, I will not accept being very bad to be very good because it isnt necessary
