When Irma came through we had a great thread of Hurricane prep tips. As it seems like all of Florida coule be impacted by Dorian I thought it may be a good idea to start something similar as many of us live in the state and potential path of Dorian. Mods feel free to move this (as if I need to give you permission) to the appropriate forum.

A few resources for all things Hurricanes.

Hi All -

I actually do storm preparation as part of my role with FPL/NEER and we're bracing for a very aggressive hit directly on Palm Beach County.

You need to go through Windy.com. It's the best model, especially when you use the European model (EMCWF). That'll have the latest and best guess we can make on it's direction. We pay millions a year for tracking storms using a modified version.

There is a lot of chatter this storm isn't very serious or it's 100% going north of us and we're all good. This is not accurate, and I really hope everyone goes and gets supplies asap
Wow. The European model really does show a devastating storm for the entire SE coastline. Stay safe everyone.

That's showing more south than what I had seen yesterday. I thought that was coming directly for us(Kissimmee/Orlando area) but that could hit south of us. Either way we're going to get hit with some of it if not all of it. Be safe people and take no chances.

It looks like it may hit farther south than originally thought and run right through the center of the state.

I will say that everything will depend on specific turns...as some who really follow hurricanes have mentioned (mike from spaghetti models) that the cone is all in play...

I live in WPB and prefer to evacuate early if WPB is facing a likely direct hit. What sort of time frame are we looking at to know if/when they are likely to make evacuation orders? Fri am? Fri pm? Sat am?
I understand fully that the hurricane's likely direction can change a lot and we may just get a lot of rain, but if evacuation is on, I want to know as early as possible.

The 11am/5pm advisory on Friday should be very telling. Still gonna be some inconsistencies today and tomorrow.

It's looking like the coast will get hit on Sunday night so I'd imagine you'd need to leave by tomorrow or Saturday afternoon at the latest?

Where in West Palm? I'm in Broward and have never been evacuated (in 45 years) that I can recall.

Evacuations are for the coast, low lying areas, and mobile homes.
