Dorian and Hurricane Preperation

Just scary what this storm is doing to Freeport. Seeing some of the videos, holy ****.

South Florida has been so fortunate to dodge these monsters, but one will hit eventually. I still can’t believe people dump billions into real estate over here.

With the warming waters, these storms will only increase in frequency and intensity. In 30 years. good luck finding anyone to insure homes near the coast.

It's crazy man. We have been so damn lucky.

Andrew was 27 years ago, since then there have been like 2 notable Miami-Dade / Broward hurricanes (many close calls and outer bands)

Katrina and Wilma.

Katrina was barely a cat 1 and it skated South at the last second, but hit the county line. Really an after thought of a storm down here considering what the future of that storm did.

Wilma was by far the worst and it wasn't even supposed to bother us, but it looped back in the Gulf, came across the state and it gave Broward it's worst storm ever, and we are talking a cat 1/2 in late October.

if a cat 5, 180 mph storm decides to put a direct hit on County Line road, going due west at 1 mph, I mean I can't even imagine.

I went surfing right before Katrina hit. It was nothing when it was going over us. Didn’t do much damage.

Wilma came in from the west coast and it was supposed to be a weak Cat 1 or 2. But I was surprised that it caused more damage than I thought. Blew the steeple off the church in front of our place.

I was most scared by Irma, but we were so damn lucky it curved south.

If we got a direct hit, it’s the storm surge that would bury us. So many canals here, everything east of US1 would be under water.

The water was already high from king tides going into this. Very fortunate.

This problem is only going to get worse though as the sea level rises and the storms get more frequent and powerful. I fear this region won’t be habitable by the end of my lifetime.

Storm has stalled and now is taking a due north bobble. Looking slowly better for us.

I have to Imagine Grand Bahama and Abaco won't be ready for tourists for a long time. Memorial Day at the earliest.

As expected Dorian is now stationary. It should weaken over the next few days and by tomorrow afternoon should continue its NW and N track.
The official forecast has shifted slightly to the East which would keep it a few more miles offshore.

Those are great news for us with the new path. Seeing those videos from the Bahamas is scary. I'm preying for those people that decided to stay for one reason or the other. It's going to take a long time for those islands to recover.

Looks like we dodged one, but can't possibly have a feel good vibe to it after seeing what's happening to our brothers in the Bahamas. My heart is with them, man. Really sad stuff pouring in from the videos on social media.

I believe the death toll is at 5 now, including a 7 year old boy. I'd imagine that it will gradually grow, but I sure hope not.

Devastating.

I plan on helping out as much as possible.

The Bahamas devastation has not even begun to sink in for people. It will in a day or 2.

Have to imagine the 2 day ships out of Palm Beach will have to be used in some of humanitarian effort on Abaco and Grand Bahama.

Yay, the storm is coming my way! Hopefully it weakens on it's way up. I expect by the time it hits my area it will only be heavy rainfall and winds of maybe 80 MPH.

Wilma looped around and was refueled by traveling over the warm water in the Everglades

The Bahamas look like Dante's Inferno. It's just beyond terrible including that poor little 7 yr old boy who literally got swept away.

The track of this hurricane is wild if it holds. It’s like someone put a forcefield around the US coast.
