Draft Future: Miami?

There were people on this web site asking for info about the draft so they could fly in. How can you say people don't travel to the NFL Draft?

They only let a few hundred people into the draft. There are no tickets sold to it. There is no fan demand. You might find the oddball here or there who would want to fly in, but they are they exception not the rule.

And btw more than 34 million people watched the NFL Draft on tv last year.

The number allowed in depends on what the venue holds. And the people waiting for hours outside would (including the ones who couldn't get in) disagree there's no fan demand. If there's 34 million watching what percentage of oddballs do you need to make it worthwile?

watching at home on TV and standing in line for a day to get in are 2 different things. Im saying if you think moving this thing around and it will bring in revenue for a city or the league you are fooling yourself. It won't. It might be popular, it isn't revenue driven.

Well, 2 days of advertising in front of 34 million people is likely to have some return. In addition 31 teams will bring representatives (at least 4 per). ESPN will bring a fairly large contingent as will several other media outlets. Players and families attend. Throw in you oddballs. All these people are likely to require accomodations, food and transportation. I'd say that's likely to bring some money in.

Look, I know people who work for the economic and tourism development agencies for my city. They pursue smaller events than this all the time and end up with economic impact predictions of well over a $1,000,000. So you can believe whatever you want, but you're not even close to being right.

I think they need to move the draft to different cities...why should NY have it every year?

passing along a smart *** comment by a fellow dolphin fan ," he said they should have the nfl draft at the north pole" ? needless to say that this dolphin fan is hung over so anything he says has no merit at least not for a couple of days.
here is my idea though i think it should be held in toombstone arizona that way maybe some dolphin fans can mine for silver and strike it rich.

Why not. You sure are.

Any halfwit in tourism could tell you about the impact. Obviously if it starts getting moved around teams that are hosting it are going to want to open the doors to it further. Hell if the draft was within a reasonable distance to me I'd go see the hoopla if I thought I could get in.

If they put it in teams hands instead of the NFL office I can see it growing beyond what it is now.
