Drew Rosenhaus was on Sports Xtra tonight and he confirmed his client Richard Marshall is pushing Vontae Davis for his spot at CB. Rosenhaus said when Marshall signed here he thought he would be competing with Sean Smith, says Fins have concerns about Davis' consistency

I think that our defense might rock this year.

Both Vontae and Sean have been horribly immature. The light switch seems to have gone on for Smith. While he has always had stone hands and shies from contact, maybe he is starting to mature and work better.

As for Davis, the kid has tremendous talent, but he has also been immature. Looks like Smith has stepped up this year and Davis hasn't. If Davis ever matured, he could be outstanding. Great strength, quickness, ball skills etc.

I think they're trying to
motivate vontae to become the type of CB that they see he can be. Competition is the best way to bring out the best in someone.

Push comes to shove, there´s about 3 or 4 CB that can push Vontae...That´s it!!

I don't buy this either, I think it is just to give Vontae a kick in the ass to become the corner everyone knows he can be. Other then the slow start last year he has been our best corner since he was drafted.

well at the least it would be great too have 3 CB that can are starting qaulity - benny sapp and Will allen (last 2 yrs) - Jason Allen (bust? ) and who ever else i am missing hurt the secondary the past few years

This

Wake up call that's all.

Philbin has always said it wasn't about the BEST 53 but the RIGHT 53. If Marshall is playing better then he SHOULD start. Davis has to decide how important football is to him. Nobody is going to argue that Davis has the talent but he has to prove it every snap. Marshall is more consistant so unless Vontae steps up his game I think Marshall should start.

I watched Marshall while he was here in Carolina, and he is rock steady. You won't see any breakdowns in coverage on his side of the field. This really isn't that surprising, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Marshall start all 4 preseason games to see if Vontae gets the message. If not let Marshall start the season.
