Drew Rosenhaus confirms Richard Marshall is challenging Davis for his spot at CB

Its not out omf the realm of possibility that Vontae is in trouble. He is inconsistent and good for one 50 yard completion a game.

So you and the herald are telling us that Smith played at 243 pounds last year. Because he's at 218 at this time.

now you know why he moved like a truck at times

on a serious note: Smith's playing weight last year was 214. unless he gained 25 pounds during the off-season, i fail to see how he lost much weight, if he's indeed at 218 now.

More people are starting to see the inadequacies of Davis most likely because all the focus for weakness in the secondary has been on Smith.

I won't be surprised if Davis is not re-signed if he continues to be inconsistent.

Corner is going to be drafted heavily next season.  I expect only one of Smith and Davis to be re-signed, and that's probably a good thing.  Though the potential was through the roof on this duo, immaturity and inconsistency has really kept them from greatness these first few years.

you also gotta look at who was coaching and looking after these guys......

the coaching staff through Vontae and Sean's first few years were......just awful

Its plain and simple, vontae has elite talent has the skill set and ability to be a top 5 corner back in this league, the problem is he takes plays off and does not stay mentally focused, something is going on upstairs with this kid. I remember all the draft experts and scouting reports said Davis constantly had to be motivated at Illinois to play at a high level and you still see it now, some plays he looks elite with lock down coverage and fly's up and makes a sick tackle, and some plays he gets smoked by TE's and takes plays off and it happens way too much so this coaching staff is putting him on notice!

I agree that it will be addressed in the draft. But Vontae is under contract for next season.

Jesus have been investing in our secondary via draft and fa for years! We really can't continue this wash rinse repeat.

I would focus more on the lack of a pass rush. A corner can only cover for so long before the advantage goes to the reciever and lack of saftey play also handcuffs our corners. Madison and Surtan were at their best when we had monsters up front.

We didn't give Richard Marshall a 3 year $16M contract to sit. He will be in the starting rotation somewhere. Davis and Smith had their chances.

agreed.. Vontae is certainly in trouble of being relegated to the nickle spot.

Wow, an agent is an expert now? I'm willing to bet that they want to blitz more from the nickel and that is all. Vontae is a beast when it comes to lowering the boom! Maybe everybody needs to take a chill pill.

I don't know how, but somehow all us fin fans have accepted the narrative that Davis and Smith are this HOF duo that is moments away from realizing their potential. I for one am sick of the "P" word - either step up and produce, or step aside. Vontae is average when you look at his stats. He is by no means a lock for a starting position, or even a long term role on this team.
