Dwayne Bowe to Miami?

even if you're not a top 5 wr which bowe isn't by the way when you hit free agency and you're in your prime a top 15-20 wr like bowe his agent is gonna demand/command top 5 money...

I like Bowe -- he had a good season last yr - yr before he was the talk of trades too miami -
If Mia got 2 -3rds for Marshell - what would bowe want?
Maybe a 3rd or 4th and sean smith or maybe Misi or Mcdaniels? at the right price he would be a good addition

Hoops' estimate for Bowe may even be on the low side. Vincent Jackson got a 5 year, $55.55 million contract. His and Dwayne Bowe's careers have been pretty similar. Both have had three 1000+ yard seasons. In fact, Bowe has averaged more yards and touchdowns per game than Vincent. And he hasn't been in constant trouble like Vincent, either.

But then, Vincent has that ridiculous size/speed combo everyone is looking for with 6'5" and 240 lbs size to go with 4.46 speed...whereas Bowe is 6'2" and 220 lbs, runs a 4.51. Unsurprisingly, Jackson's averaged 17.5 yards per reception to Dwayne's 13.8. Jackson also has averaged 10.8 yards per attempt, 1.99 yards per pass snap, and a TD every 66 pass snaps over the last four seasons. Dwayne Bowe has averaged 8.0 yards per attempt, 1.84 yards per pass snap and a TD every 69 pass snaps.

Then again, I think Dwayne Bowe would probably point out he's had Tyler Thigpen, Tyler Palko, Kyle Orton and Matt Cassel throwing him the ball, whereas Vincent has had Phil Rivers throwing to him pretty exclusively.

Overall, I think evaluators will buy the size/speed and quality metrics on Jackson more than Bowe, even with the difference in QB play, even with the suspension possibilities looming over Jackson's head. I don't expect Dwayne Bowe to get as much money as Vincent Jackson did from the Buccaneers (who were put in a position where they were awkwardly forced to over-spend a ton of money just to get over the salary floor).

I'm not opposed to $10 million a year for Dwayne Bowe on a long term contract, though. I think he fits this offense, and if you want Tannehill to succeed you have to give him some weapons.

lol so who would you want for the price that is okay by your standards? unless you get lucky in the late rounds of the draft youre gonna pay for a WR.
This. The highest WR investment on this team is a 4th round pick(Hartline). You either draft a guy or pay a guy. The odds of finding a Colston or Austin late or undrafted are slim.

i would agree that vincent jackson despite the off field issues would still command more money if both he and bowe were free agents together...that said though bowe will get his...average annual salary of $10 mil sounds about right...i don't know that i see him in that light though...but the arguement can be made that as ck said his qbs to date have not been anything special and so he could produce even more with a real qb...

i would definitely take bowe over colston though...if its gonna be a big contract i'd give it to bowe...colston is partially a product of drew brees and that offense...he wouldn't be getting so many good looks if he wasn't in that o...of that i'm convinced...

Bowe is not a diva plus he is from Miami, if we can get him next year pay the man. He is a great Wr and he is in his prime, waste the picks on something else next year

ck...any thoughts on what hartline is looking for in this next contract??? anybody else???

i'm betting it's at least $20 mil over 5 years...or a $4 mil per average yearly...if he gets $30 mil from miami i will blow a gasket

i bet we are offering $3 mil per and i bet he's asking for $5-6 mil per

Marques Colston - 7th round
Miles Austin - Undrafted
Davone Bess - Undrafted
Wes Welker - Undrafted
Victor Cruz - Undrafted
Antonio Brown - 6th round
Stevie Johnson - 7th round
Pierre Garcon - 6th round

There are a lot more but it's not as slim as you might think.

I'm thinking about the same on Hartline. I think the Dolphins are offering $3-4 million per year, though I tend to doubt the 5 year contract length. I have no problem with a long term at a low price level from a team standpoint, but I'm sure Brian and his agent have an issue with that. They know that Brian is set to get more action this year than he's probably gotten to date in Miami, so in their minds they could get stuck with a $3 million a year contract now, or wait a year and potentially pick up $5 million a year. If I were Miami, I could live with meeting in the middle at $4 million, and unlike you I don't particularly care about the length of the deal, in fact the longer the contract maybe the better. If you're paying him $4 million a year that's like #3 WR money and I'm pretty sure in the long term he's a valuable #3 WR that will outplay that level of contract. He strikes me as a Udonis Haslem type you'd love to keep around for a long time. Less convinced that Bess is that valuable.

One thing to keep in mind is that when the TV contracts get renegotiated the salary cap could bump up as much as 20% very suddenly, and that means all existing contracts are now 20% underpaid. All the more incentive to get whatever long term players you want in place under contract prior to 2014...hence the deal NE signed with Gronk.

Putting Davone Bess' name in wih Colston, Austin, Welker, Cruz, Brown and Johnson just looks wrong. Not so sure about Garcon though.

Really?? You are going to list 8 WRs to prove your that we don't need to use a high draft pick on a WR?? It's about percentages, 8 that are decent late round picks or undrafted out of what 2 or 3 hundred that tried out for NFL teams and are now flipping burgers some where in hometown USA !!!! Sorry but I don't get excited about those odds. Don't get me wrong I am not upset that we didn't use a high pick this year, we had too many other needs, but we REALLY need to use one next year, or spend the money in free agency to get Tannehill the weapons he needs, IMO.

How does it work now that he signed his tender?

Would we still be able to trade for him and restructure a long term deal instead of paying him all that guaranteed money?
