Except that were only keeping one FB and Evans looks to be that man.

This team is looking to shed some running backs but I can't see the team parting with Morris unless they plan to keep Harris to fill that 3rd back/special teams role.

That's true and Harris is more likely to be able to fill the H-back/2nd TE role that Linehan covets...However, Morris could be gone if the price is right from Philly...

they are really after Ricky I beleive

Fair enough DPHINS. I hear what you are saying. Ultimately you and I put different value on how much an "all-around" back is worth. To me, a guy like Sammy, that can 1) play some HB, 2) play some FB, and 3) is ok catching out of the backfield, is nice to have, nothing more. In other words, if you dont have anyone better, hes a nice jack-of-all-trades. However, IMO hes not someone that in my mind that has any real trade value. If Im the Eagles, Id rather hang on to my pick and use it on someone that can develop into a starter somewhere down the line. Having said that he may just be worth more to the Dolphins than he is to other teams.

So anyway, I guess we will agree to disagree. Time will tell what the Eagles are willing to give up (if anything). I promise you this - if we give up a fifth or better, I'll be seeking you out looking to eat some crow. :)

Nice talking with you.

I've been following your discussion and have enjoyed, for the most part, both or your sides. However, your comment "If Im the Eagles, Id rather hang on to my pick and use it on someone that can develop into a starter somewhere down the line." I must dissagree with.

I don't think that it takes into account the fact that the Eagles believe they are superbowl contenders...right now (and they aer likely right). I think it is highly possible that it could increase a player like Sammy's value to them. If they want to win this season (especially with the fact that they are VERY likely to get rid of Owens after the season and why else would they put up with his crap) a backup with Sammy's skill set could be important. I think Phili pulls out whatever stops they can to try and seal the deal on a SB while they've got the opporunity to.

That said...I'd be happy to get a conditional 5th for Morris with the possiblity of increasing to a 4th with certain stats met. I think that's fair for both sides.

any pick less than 3rd rounder we should just keep Morris. Unlike Gordon or Minor, i think Morris is our 3rd best RB right now. (behind Ricky and "supposedly" Ronnie). Morris is worth more to us than any 4th rounder or 5th rounder talent right now. no guy from the 4th or 5th round is going to contribute on this team like Morris does, so no.

besides, Ronnie hasn't even showed us what he's got yet. If Ronnie flat-out sucks (heaven-forbid), we're going to need Morris for those first four games until ricky comes in. Lets face it, Gordon sucks and is the one who should be traded to whatever desperate team is out there, and Minor is valuable on special teams but has proven he can't carry the full-time load. Morris is our safety net, worth more than a 4th round pick in my eyes.

Perhaps we can get our 2nd rd pick back...

Eh nice one there wharf but honestly I'd do something like this Derrius Thompson and Sammy Morris for an offensive lineman

actually the Derrius Thompson argument is intriguing. He is fast losing his value here with our depth at WR, and the Eagles are hurting for WR behind T.O.

the only problem I have with your argument for keeping Morris is that we are 90% likely to let Morris walk after the season. I feel that being able to get something 4th or 5th (more likely a 5th) for Sammy will not hurt us as a team that much. I still feel that people need to understand that this is a building year..new coaches, new off. scheme, new def. scheme, and simply an overall new attitude. Because of this I feel that we're likely to finish with 7 to 9 wins and likely to not make the playoffs because the East is going to be so strong. I feel that a pick for Sammy is the best way to go for the future of the team, especially considering he'll be 3rd at best on the depth chart after week 4. Yes, he'd have value for the 1st 4 games as the likely top backup but I don't think that would make up for a pick next year that will have 3 years on the team and be more of a "Saban" type player. Of course there are no guarantees on draft picks and Sammy is what he is...and we understand his abilities and limitations. And while some people will not like hearing it, the coaching staff really seems to like what Minor brings to the table. As a 3rd string RB with great hands and KO return abilities I feel he balances out Morris's ability to be a backup FB (a position that Linehan doesn't use much anyway in the traditional sense)

we need him.

i would love to get our 2nd round back even though saban doesn't care about the 2nd for feeley because it is a sunk cost, cause it didn't come under his watch.

more realistic i see a 3rd or 4th.

remember the pick will be really low in the round cause the eagles will go far.

Morris isn't going anywheres, at least until the 5th week of the season! IMO

The only post on this board that appealed to my eyes...If anyone noticed, we aren't dropping any RBs until Week 5. We'll have Ronnie Brown, Sammy Morris and Lamar Gordon/Travis Minor. Lamar Gordon will not make the team. It will be Ronnie, Sammy and Travis until Week 5, and then I say we cut Travis or test him and stick him ont he trade block. Sammy Morris HAS been quite consistent since we obtained him and he is decent backup back. We'll keep him and throw Travis Minor on the fishing line, see if we get any bites...
