Egnew being waived -- Per Schefter

You just got the feeling after watching him on Hard Knocks - that he was a mental midget and was never going to "get it". What a bust.

We gave up two 2nds for Marshall to play for Sporano and before Philbin even let Marshall hit the field he was traded off to Chicago for 2 thirds. That sounds like the coach making the decision more than the GM plus we traded off Vonte Davis to Indy for a 2nd that year . I am not a Marshall fan and was not when we brought him on board and he helped kicked Sporano out of Miami for making Marshall a Dolphin. Marshall is a good NFL player but it takes the right coach to harness the guy and Philbin at least recognized he was not up to challenge.

A pretty key piece of evidence were the rumors about Marshall being involved in an assault and if found guilty very likely would have faced a year suspension. Its not dissimilar to trading Bess after discovering he was a drug addicted loon. Its a prick move to trade a player knowing that player is about to become a disaster. So who's the prick of the organization?

Maybe Marshall assaulted Philbin.

I've given up on egnew at this point but the timing is daft. I'd have kept him til final cuts day, but I understand what they are doing by letting him try get a spot elsewhere

RIP Thousand Yard Stare

There's a 20 watt bulb at best in there.

Should hear today if he was picked up.

Not only with that but also it allows the coaches to play other TE's to evaluate their value

cant really hate the player. he is what he is.
i blame the scouting staff for over valuing him.cldnt they see he was a product of the system he played in at college of course he could have done his homework and might have had a better shot if Ireland were still here.maybe this sends a message to other players to get there azzes going or they will be done as well

Egnew was not recruited out of high school by ANY team except his college team. He was only a 2 star prospect. I agree with what you said about being a product of the college system. But look at his scouting report for the NFL and he's projected as a backup tight end, that's it. Not a starter. It's also glaringly pointed out he was not a red zone threat, either. So what do the Dolphins do, they draft him in the THIRD ROUND.

Someone mentioned Dallas Thomas, he's another player who was not highly recruited out of high school, just like Egnew. These players are motivated for a while in college and put up some decent stats, but don't have what it takes to make it in the NFL.

The third guy on this team with the bad high school resume is Ryan Tannehill. Please let him pan out. Please let the light come on and he steps up and becomes what we need him to be. Otherwise, he'll be backup material, too, eventually.

Interesting observation. I checked out Jordan out of curiosity sake, he was a 4 star recruit but as a TE. :idk:

I would guess we added more 5 star recruits this one season under Hickey than Ireland did in his six years here, I could be completely wrong about that though.

Ireland quite clearly had this obsession with trying to be the smartest guy in the room. He wanted to uncover that player everyone else was overlooking. The Egnew selection is a shining example of it.

Yeah...I'm a lot less interested in what a guy rated in HS than how he plays now. I'm sure there are correlations between a players ranking entering college and likelihood of NFL success, but there are a whole lot of highly recruited dudes that go no where, and plenty of dudes who are nothing that turn into something. Bodies, skills, and minds all change in the 3-5 years spent in college.
