Julius Thomas did not not play college football until the year before he was drafted, and even when he did it was for Portland State, hardly known as a football factory. Michael Egnew on the other hand played for four years at Missouri and had a 90 catch year and a 50 catch year.
I'm all about giving physically talented players a chance. But let's not assume that
everyone deserves three full years to prove they're worth a damn. At some point the pot odds should take over. If he doesn't show something that he frankly didn't even show at Missouri -- an ability to consistently create space and get open -- then he shouldn't be here, period. It's not like this is a bad year for tight ends in the draft or in free agency. It's maybe the most stacked offseason I've ever seen for tight ends. If we pass that because we still want to see what Michael Egnew has to offer... God help us.
