Now that Ireland is gone, how long will Egnew survive before he is cut? The only reason he was on the team last year is that Ireland could not afford to publicly admit that he had missed on another third round pick.

I thought Egnew did well last season. Did a lot of things. He is certainly worth keeping over Sims, who's done nothing, and is not as athletic and versatile as Egnew. If we get Ebron, Amaro, Seferian, Sims should go, not Egnew.

Not long. I wouldn't be surprised if Clay was our only returning TE next year.

I just can't shake the image of that dumb look he had on his face, in the meetings on Hard Knocks!

Hey he surprised many with his blocking so maybe the receiving comes this year. Either way tight end is not the priority issue here first is the offensive line, running back and middle linebacker positions.

Julius Thomas (Denver) really did not break out until this season (his 3rd).

Lets see what hopefully what a creative/adaptable OC can do before some of you chase Egnew out of town.

I think he may surprise us next season, it seemed Sherman wasn't a big fan of his. maybe our new o coordinator will put him in a better position to find success.

Julius Thomas did not not play college football until the year before he was drafted, and even when he did it was for Portland State, hardly known as a football factory. Michael Egnew on the other hand played for four years at Missouri and had a 90 catch year and a 50 catch year.

I'm all about giving physically talented players a chance. But let's not assume that everyone deserves three full years to prove they're worth a damn. At some point the pot odds should take over. If he doesn't show something that he frankly didn't even show at Missouri -- an ability to consistently create space and get open -- then he shouldn't be here, period. It's not like this is a bad year for tight ends in the draft or in free agency. It's maybe the most stacked offseason I've ever seen for tight ends. If we pass that because we still want to see what Michael Egnew has to offer... God help us.

Michael Egnew made progress in 2013, particularly with his blocking. But the great ball catching skills that he had in college have been rarely tested to date. It is popular on here to kick Egnew because he was the 3rd round draft pick we got for trading Brandon Marshall, but that is not the big fella's fault. He is actually well placed for a breakout year if we show a bit more patience.
Besides, if he gets cut, his finheaven namesake, Egnew the Goat, may be forced to find another hero like Jimmy Wilson or Pat Devlin.

Curious? Do you take your ritalin before or after you put the popcorn in the microwave?

Of course his blocking improved, there was only one way it could go. He's still a stiff TE that can't get any separation. Time to move on.
