End of 1st half field goal attempt

As I said, win or lose this game, that was the worst coaching decision I have ever seen in my life. If you can think of a worse one, refresh my memory, because that was just inexplicable. Marty Mornhinweg got pilloried for taking the wind in overtime, and yet I don't think that decision even compares to this one. Run a ****ing QB read option play on 4th and 2, what's the worst that can happen?

I have no problem with not calling a timeout. It'd be too risky trying to get a field goal in this weather with just a minute left and a good punt could have put us on the 5 yard line. They call 3 timeouts and we're giving te ball back to them in something close to field goal range. The only way it backfires is the 10% chance that we block the punt....which we did, which makes the decision look dumb retrospectively.

Edit: We should have gone for it on 4th and 2 but maybe they saw it as an opportunity for Sturgis to either gain a ton of confidence (on a make) or lose barely any (on the miss, which is totally understandable). Note: I disagree with the decision. Just throwing out possible rationales.

I can almost get with the decision to allow the Steelers to bleed out the clock considering the conditions and the situation. However, he basically went against his own logic there by then deciding to go for a 50+ FG in those same conditions... Go for the 4th down conversion and use your timeouts. Woeful decision in that spot...

Total retard.

It's incredible. And I guarantee, some guys here will defend that crap.

Wasting time. Wasting timeouts. 52 yard field goals in the snow. Can't trust the offense to pick up two measly yards on the ground.

How can you trust that any of the above are professional level coaching decisions.

Special teams comes up HUGE and your dumb coaching decisions get NOTHING out of it.

Philbin should apologize for being an idiot in the post game presser.

I was hoping for a fake at the very least...poor decision

I heard Sturgis missed a field goal and I got ticked off. But I guess from the sounds of it now, it wasn't his fault?

That was the worst call I've ever seen him do yet. Joe if you read this. Really , I know nothing about coaching and to make it is 90% chance you're not gunna make it, and to do it with fourth and 2 with 22 seconds left is pathetic. What a crappy call.

2 timeouts, 4th and one, and you try a ****ing field goal? Who ever made that decision should be fired after this game. I would consider bring in another kicker sooner than later too.

Mathews......How did not get the first down to start with? You could have easily turned it upfield and still got out of bounds. ****ing morons!

I have more confidence in Sturgis on a 50+ yard kick than I do in Joe Philbin's game management skills.

lets get rid of both of these bums in the offseason.

holy overreaction Batman/ Dumb move for sure, but it didn't hurt us

No, I'm sorry. I agreed with the decision to let time run there. I felt that that particular situation was a good time to be conservative and play to get the ball in the 2nd half. But how can you defend the decision to try the FG there?

The problem isn't the outcome of the decision, its the thought process that would lead a HC to make such a poor decision and fear that said HC will continue to make similarly poor decisions in the future.

I'm not defending the decision, I'm saying people blasting Philbin are overreacting just a bit.
