Dolfans that are hoping for a complete collapse are severely misguided.

This team is YOUR and My OWN WORST nightmare!

If we were a 4 and 12 team or a 1 and 15 team we'd all be much better off.

Sorry to say folks but we are gonna be 6 and 10 or 7 and 9.

We are now entering our 3rd decade of mediocrity.

Somewhere in the mid-nineties Wayne Huizenga tried to buy Shula and Marino a last hurrah! I think the team went 9 and 7.

Keith Byers, Keith Jackson, Terry Kirby, Mark Ingram and the crew set out to give the NFL's greatest QB and greatest coach of all time their much deserved Lombardi trophy.

A soft, and ineffective defense led to more heartbreak!

And now with this JERK Sporano who lacks creativity, inspiration, game-day coaching, talent evaluation skills, and overall is WAY OVER HIS HEAD - we fans are left with what will likely be another 7 and 9 debacle.

I argue that with the core of talent and a few better off season decisions, and the proper motivation we'd be a much better team. I have NEVER seen a guy get so excited about a field goal as our rutterless leader Sporano.

Somebody please wake me up I think I am having a nightmare.

Get ready to draft about spot 12 to 15. and start this cycle ALL over again.

The leadership and this team are starting to bust me (and I imagine other intense, die-hard fans OUT).

How much longer can we stay on board and be the laughing stock of the NFL?!

Third decade???? What are you smoking?

Miami hadn't had a losing season from 1988 to 2004. Before that the previous losing season was 1976.

I think a little perspective needs to be taking when thinking of futility.

I see what you are saying...We are indeed stuck in the middle and I would not be surprised a bit to see us win 5-6 before the end of the year.

Nice post...

Too many people allowed to post that have absolutely no idea what they are talking about

Perhaps not a losing season but the Dolphins have been a barely above .500 team since the early 80's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Miami_Dolphins_seasons

For as much bitching about Sparano that people around here do, at 7-9 he's 1 or 2 wins away from a typical Shula / Marino season. Hell, give Sparano and this team Marino in his prime and you'd probably get better results than Shula ever did. The Dolphins have being painfully average for a long long long time.

It is what it is.

You are dreaming....This team will be lucky to win 4 games.

This is not entering a third decade of mediocrity.....We were in an AFC Championship game in 1993....the downward spiral to mediocrity started during Wannstedt's reign of terror.

You must be too young to remember what a Don Shula coached team looked like, because it was nothing like what we see with the current team.
I'll go even as far as to say Don Shula would have this team in the playoffs

If the 90's were mediocre. Then this past decade is so far under mediocre as to not even be on the same scale.

Perhaps, and I think Shula was top 5 to EVER coach in the NFL, but the game has changed ALOT since Shula. Night and Day.

IIRC, The Dolphins, prior to 2005 were the most successful Pro Sports team in America at like a .72% winning percentage.

That of course has changed in the last 6 years, and we won't likely ever see that again, but perspective is very very important.

Go tell this to a Lions, Bills, Chiefs, Falcons or Saints fan (Of course the Saints have something more recent to cheer about, but that's part of being a patient fan).

Only a handful get to go to the playoffs. Only a few of those get to repeat year after year...well, for over 3 decades, we were one of those that went year after year after year.

It's all cyclic folks. Relax and take it one weekend at a time.

Shula got the most from his players and changed his style depending on the talent he had. The game changed during his tenure and he led the way with Marino. In his prime, he could make a winner out of any team in the league.

Yeah, I agree with what you are saying. He was revolutionary in his time for certain. Unconventional in that he did adapt very well.
At the same time, whether it falls on Shula or those he surrounded himself with, he ALWAYS had lots of talent all over the field. We used to be the team that uncovered those hidden gems....all the time.

Been a fan since 82. I missed the Golden Age of the Miami Dolphins but I'm well aware of what a Shula team looked and played like.

The Dolphins were great in the 70's. During the 80's and 90's they were an average at best team riding on the talent of Marino. Without Marino it's likely Shula would have followed in the footsteps of Tom Landry and been shown the door sooner than he was.

People question the current front office and coaching but how do the Dolphins with Dan Marino only make it to one Superbowl?
