Eric Steinbach signs one year deal with fins

Don't know if this has been mentioned already but the thing to pay attention to on this is the TIMING. The players checked in this morning for weigh-ins and Eric Steinbach was signed by the afternoon.

It's all guesswork of course, but I think someone blew their weigh-in, and my money would be on John Jerry. I'm guessing the last time they had him in they asked him to lose a significant amount of weight, and they checked him in this morning and he didn't.
They had 90 before the Steinbach signing and no announcement yet on who's been released. Don't think Jerry would get cut this soon without trying to facilitate a conditional trade or something to try and recoup some of that investment. I would tend to think they would cut Ray Feinga first but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I said it earlier in the year, John Jerry is going to eat himself out of the league.

This sucks they cut , Dennis ! Was looking forward to seeing him compete.

If healthy this is a good signing, but thats a big "if". Not many linemen come back after major back surgery in their 30's and perform well but I hope he can stay healthy.

I am with you. I hope he can return to his previous form. If so, we got a good player.

I think this just continues to show that John Jerry has been a major disappointment so far in the eyes of the new coaching staff. The Dolphins did their conditioning drills today so I wouldn't even be shocked to find out that Jerry failed the test. Steinbach missed last season with a back injury, but even though he is 32 years old he could be a nice addition. If he can prove he is healthy he will start at RG in my opinion.

I assume the coaching staff has finally given up on Jerry and were not thrilled with the idea of having Hicks as the 16 game starter at RG. Though I still wouldn't write Murtha or Garner off when it comes to that starting spot.
I completely agree with your assessment of Jerry. He hasn't done anything at all since he's been here. If Stienbach is healthy he's our starter no question.

Derrick Dennis was not my favorite UDFA signing. He was a guy most of the pundits isolated along with Jeff Fuller as an impact UDFA but I didn't see it. He doesn't fit what they like. He's big, strong, dumpy and slow. Watch tape of that offense and tell me his fellow UDFA teammate Wayne Tribue isn't a better fit at Guard for this staff. I don't know why they went after Dennis instead of Tribue but I'm glad they got Josh Samuda who I think actually could make this team.

Gotta feel for Derek Dennis, who prepped all spring/summer for his first NFL training camp, only to get cut the day before it starts

I wouldn't feel too bad for Dennis. He likely got himself cut by failing his conditioning test or coming in over weight.

not a bad pick up i guess. Seems like a low risk high reward signing by the fins. Hope he could compete and start for us, if hes healthy i have a feeling he will start. Scott must be more injured then i thought or is pricing himself out of a job.

I'm sure he's coming in much cheaper than Scott would. I think this is strictly a depth signing, and it'll be Hicks/Martin on the right side this year.

The agent for Eric Steinbach, Jack Bechta, said that Steinbach's back surgery was successful and that doctors expect a full recovery. "The operation went really well,'' Bechta said in an email. "There was a loose, unattached bone fragment wedge on the spinal cord nerves. It was removed and the nerves laid back down in their track and Eric is 100 percent pain-free. There was no other structural damage to the nerves nor did they have to touch any of the disk.''
