ESPN - Poll of NFL Insiders Rank Joe Philbin 29th Head Coach

Most subjective list they could write IMO. Anyway you can't justify ranking him above 25.

http://espn.go.com/blog/miami-dolphins/post/_/id/9494/is-joe-philbin-the-29th-ranked-coach

Philbin was ranked 29th out of 32 and in the bottom tier. He also ranked last in the AFC East below Bill Belichick (No. 1) of the New England Patriots, Rex Ryan (No. 17) of the New York Jets and even Doug Marrone (No. 28) of the Buffalo Bills.

Here is an excerpt from Sando’s article:

“Some credited Philbin for his handling of the Dolphins during the Richie Incognito imbroglio, but it was also tough not to hold Philbin accountable for allowing such a debacle to unfold on his watch. "I think he is going to have a hard time, but I like him," a GM said. "I think Philbin is a 1 in schematics and understanding and I like his personality. You like certain things about certain people. I think he is a real guy. I do not know that he necessarily commands real respect, and he is not a feared guy. He has not had enough success to be revered. He has to have success in order for his football to come through. He is almost the exact opposite of [Mike] Tomlin."

Don't know about that low.... sheesh

:idk:

So you have to be an ESPN Insider to view the list? Like I'd ever pay a cent for such wonderful "information".

Big surprise from espn. Will they predict geno smith taking the jests to the playoffs next?

ESPN = Fox

Mostly sensationalism. No news. All bull****, all the time.

I agree that hasn't proven to be more than an average coach at best. Every year we have a team which many of our fans pick to be playoff bound, much like this year. Obviously we haven't made the playoffs recently but apparently it is by no means the coaches fault?

How can you disagree? He was or is completely out of touch with his team last year, let the Oline explode last year, had no idea how big a mess things were. Kept mike Sherman around way to long. He deserves that rank.

The big issue I have with him is that's he's way too loyal to 'his guys'. He lets his coordinators call all their own shots. That can be good, if he has good coordinators. And with good coordinators, I think he could be a pretty good coach. But after all this bologna with Sherman, and with Sherman's son-in-law QB coach who is still here, I just don't trust him to be tough enough to gather the right guys around him instead of giving handouts to his friends. If we do keep Philbin, I think we need to not let him have the final say on his coaching staff. Make Hickey or somebody else sign off on anyone he wants to hire.

Its amazing how the play of any teams QB can make a coach look like a 'good' or 'bad' coach.

So let's get this straight. Last year the dithering #29 ranked Coach (with a depleated O-line and a hopeless GM) beat #1 ranked future HOF Coach (with the Greatest of all time QB) when Miami beat New England and we haven't got a chance to repeat in the opening game.

Pretty much. I mean we have a chance. Kinda like if I go buy a lottery ticket I have a chance to win, but I am certainly not quitting my job expecting my numbers to come up. I mean if you would be willing to put money on the dolphins week one on the money line, I would have to suggest you check your meds.

This list has more to do with public image and likeability than it does with actual coaching.

I think it has more to do with the team being completely unprepared and unmotivated to play a game with the playoffs on the line two weeks in a row, to end the season. Which seems to be something he has been pretty consistent in. The teams tends to play their worst, in the biggest settings under his leadership.

Let me know where you can buy a lottery ticket with odds 32:1 (or however those degenerate gamblers say it)
