ESPN's James Walker final 53 projection

What about the #3 overall pick of 2013? Im assuming he just missed him. Cant fault him...Jordan has been invisible

Thigpen, Freeny, Don Jones may be lucky and make it. Kovacs vs Jones vs Thomas is probably close. Don't be surprised if Kovacs makes it with the Michigan connection and top character/leadership qualities.
Freeny vs Jelani Jenkins is also probably close. Freeny is good on Special Teams but Jenkins has bigger upside and is really smart.
Thigpen looked uncharacteristically awful at times last night. He's normally safe but maybe they give the KR/PR duties elsewhere and give the last spot to the best young guy who they don't want to risk on the Practice Squad, eg Garrison Smith (deserves to make it and probably would any other year), Matt Hazel.
Also interesting to note that Philbin has specifically mentioned Kyle Miller favorably, several times in his recent press conferences. Don't be surprised if Miller is one of his guys who he genuinely likes.

Miller has gotten a lot of playing time in preseason, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Hoskins to me would be the surprise. He was hurt much of TC, and I'm not sure one good play is enough.

I would keep thiggy...there's nothing interesting as a returner in house otherwise...plus the versatility he has in a pinch

One can only hope that Thigpen reverts back to what he did in 2012, when he was really good. There are no better options.

Pretty close to what I was thinking. One or two differences, but I think it's about right.

does WR damian williams make it over jelani jenkins? we're deep in receiver and short on LB.

The thing about Hoskins is let's say you keep him but you cut him for another teams cut tight end they let go to get to 53 to get a guy that can help you more now you pretty much tell the league this guys barely played but you believe in his upside so much you didn't want to even chance off the little bit of looks he got exposing him...I think it draws attention...you may be better off cutting him and then hoping he clears waivers and can be it on the p squad and provided you don't need to bring him up he's off the radar of other teams...especially when you have a similar type usage player in Charles clay already playing a huge role and you really don't have a package for both of them on the field together...most likely you keep him he's insurance in case clay gets hurt but he'd be that for you also on the p squad...promote if need be

I remember when Walker started writing for the AFC North blog on ESPN a few years ago. He didnt know the difference between a 4-3 defense and a 3-4, and he didn't understand some basic football terminology. Looks like he still doesn't have a clue.

i want hazel over thigpen, let damian williams return. i think it's silly that rookies can be poached in their first year. there should be some rule that you have at least one year to develop a player if they go on the practice squad.

Pretty much nailed it. Thigpin, Freeney, and Fox are the only questions.

Good point
