ESPN's James Walker final 53 projection

i want hazel over thigpen, let damian williams return. i think it's silly that rookies can be poached in their first year. there should be some rule that you have at least one year to develop a player if they go on the practice squad.

Particularly if they were drafted.

I remember when Walker started writing for the AFC North blog on ESPN a few years ago. He didnt know the difference between a 4-3 defense and a 3-4, and he didn't understand some basic football terminology. Looks like he still doesn't have a clue.

Hard to believe ESPN picked him over you. Guess you did not apply. :)

IMO, he did a fine job, and you have disagreed with nothing he said.

Is Caleb Sturgis going to the make the final roster with his repeated groin injuries? I think I would be looking at some free agents, or possibly some waived kickers from other squads come Saturday. We gave up on Carpenter too soon. I know Carpenter missed game winning FG's on back-to-back weeks but now he is money. :rolleyes2:

Idc about thigpen anymore.

Are you comfortable with Landry as our #1 returner? I am not.

well, I would put Williams back there as the number 1 returner. In retrospect, I don't understand why people are afraid to put a guy like Landry back there. How often are the returner's actually hurt? isn't it usually the blockers that get injured?

Ya in a study last year it showed the gunners, etc get injured pretty often, not so much the returners.

You can't develop a player on IR. Once they go to IR they're not allowed to practice or play with the team.

True. But I think a lot of teams skirt the IR rules to effectively red shirt rookies. And if they're willing to skirt one rule they are probably skirting other rules too. Maybe not technically cheating but maybe they know a guy who knows a trainer that happens to be in synch with the Dolphins trainers...if you know what I'm saying.

He's a nice guy but he is football illiterate. I thought everyone knew that. But hey, you always seem to be the last to figure anything out.

You still can't practice plays, you can't get timing with the offense or defense down, you can't get coached by your position coaches...you know what I'm saying. Plus if the player says he's not hurt and tells the NFL he was placed on IR in an attempt to get signed by another team the league will come down on the franchise.

I think he would have been there if the team shared the same feelings. In the NFL, with few exceptions, you are looking for a punt returner who can give you a 10-13 yard average. On kickoffs, you look for an average of 27-30 yards. Last year, Thigpen was not good with a 7.8 average on punts, and 22.5 on kicks.

However, in 2012 (with better blocking), he was 12.2 on punts, and 27.4 on kicks. That made him one of the best in the NFL.

Don't know which player we would get this year but, he is our best option. JMO

Yep, and the NFLPA investigates these cases pretty thoroughly from what I have seen

I'm not sure what you mean, "he would have been there". I've seen landry and Williams return a lot of kicks/punts this offseason. The last game was for thigpen to show what he has, and he showed very little. Thigpen is not good enough to be just a return man on this roster. And he's not good enough to be a RB or WR on this team either.
