Didn't he originally sign an 8 yr contract? If so, then the original signing bonus was amortized over the first seven yrs, then when he restructured, the $2.252 million was spread out over the final 7 yrs, including 2007. ($2.252 million/7 yrs=$321,714)

Looks like he's not your only problem.... (bottom of page)

QB is just the beginning of the Dolphins’ cap concerns. Miami is still seeking a No. 2 receiver, ORT Todd Wade is an unrestricted free agent and wants more money than the Dolphins are willing to give, and DLE Adewale Ogunleye, first in the NFL in sacks, could command $6 million or $7 million to sign. The Packers gave Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila $12.675 million in bonuses in March. In addition to Wade, the Dolphins have questions at offensive guard and owe CB Patrick Surtain $11.25 million over the next two seasons and $6.3 million to CB Sam Madison in 2004. Madison could get an extension, but the Dolphins may need to address Ricky Williams, whose base salary is almost three times less than Madison. WR Chris Chambers, an unrestricted free agent in 2004, is a prime candidate for a big payday as well.

That PFW article is full of a bunch of innacuracies.......so it's not worth responding too.

You can always rework the deals and take salary off the top and give it in signing bonuses over long periods of time........it is an easy way to cheat the cap.

We have been hearing the same song and a dance for the last 5 years.

It make be inaccurate but there situation is there. Last year, you had problems w/ FA'cy early on because Zach's restructure took time. This coming offseason you have more than 1 player to deal with. Some will be easy, some will be hard to deal with.

Just like the other thread said, what if Spielman decides to bolt and go with the Lions?

This strategy has proven to be disasterous over the long term. All your big cap hits (Taylor, Madison, Surtain) have already been restructured. Converting salary to bonus only steals cap space from the future.

Remember that we have the cap wizard......Brian Weidmeir..........

He always manages to get us enough space.........

also guys, the collective bargaining agreement ends in 2005 I believe..............after that....I hope...........NO CAP!..........say hello to the Miami Yankees.

If he signed an 8 year contract then the original bonus does go from 2000 to 2007 as he restructured in 2001 which is to be prorated for the final seven years.

That's why I mentioned the original contract because if he signed in 1999 then what you said makes sense. I haven't been able to dig out the original contract details.

That's not true.......the CBA was extended to 2007 or 2008 last off-season AND there will NEVER be an uncapped year

1) 2000
2) 2001
3) 2002
4) 2003
5) 2004
6) 2005
7) 2006

That's 7 yrs........so his original signing bonus could only be amortized thru 2006.

Yes, seven year max rule.

and signing bonuses agreed to in the 1999 or 2000 League Years may not be prorated more than seven years).
