Cook was a starter for Cinci last year, playing 1071 snaps, just turned 31, ad is a FA. Last year, he ranked #24, was above average on the run, and below average on the pass, giving up 5 sacks, 3 hits, and12 hurries. He is similar to Colledge, not quite as good but, did not have the ups and downs he did.

IMO,he is much better option than Samson.

Those who advocate the return of Samson, are the definition of insanity.

I like Cook. I like Satele. I DO NOT like the in house options.

Those who advocate the return of Samson, are the definition of insanity.

Insanity is asking Smith to snap when he never had done it before. Insanity is thinking Sam Brenner can be an option. Insanity is letting this issue fester.

I have no interest at all in Samson. I forgot to include that Cooks salary the last two years was $2.5M. If no other team has interest, I'm guessing, we could sign him for around $1.5M at this point, and I would do that soon.

I would rather have Cook than Satele, Samson has never impressed me

Whoever we bring in needs to be brought in soon. I think if we see below average center play in the scrimage you will see someone brought in by Monday. You can't wait until the last week of the preseason and bring someone in and hope he gets up to speed with the other 4 guys. They need to play together for awhile.

Strangely enough, Cooks worst game was vs the Dolphins when he gave up 2 sacks and 3 hurries. If you throw out that game, he would have been above average in pass blocking.

But then again... New scheme, new system, new terminology.... How fast can a veteran Center learn that system to be ready for Week 1???

The Center also can call an adjustment for the entire offensive line.... I'm not sure 2 or 3 weeks of TC will get anyone playing Center ready.

Facts about Mike Pouncey:
Pouncey started 45 career games at the University of Florida, playing in 54 total contests ... Played four games at weak-side defensive tackle, 13 at center and 28 at right offensive guard

2008: The starting right guard for the Gators all 14 games during the season

I think there is a misconception here that some believe Pouncey was a natural C in college. He had his own issues with high/low snap as well. We just have to be patient. The biggest question would be if Garner or Smith can protect the QB and contribute to the run game.

Agreed. You can bring in an OG or OT off final cuts, as they can fit in a week or so. A center has to make the OL calls, and that does not happen quickly.

IF we do something within the next 10 days, he would have about a month which should be good for a vet center.

Probably faster and BETTER than anyone so far..

In looking further, Cook did play vs our division last year. He gave up nothing vs Bills and Jets, did give up a sack vs the Pats but, did well in run blocking. I'm selling myself on this guy, and it's working. :)

I agree, was not very excited with the option of Samson myself, I think he can get us over the hump from horrible, to adequate O-line (If the other pieces on the line can also mesh well) until Mike can come back. Hope this happens, and happens soon, we are running out of time.
