FA G Smith from Rams set to visit Fins after Pats visit

Definitely want this guy, very versatile, can play both guard spots if need be
 
After signing Revis, New England only has about 6 million left in cap room. Most of that will have to go towards draft picks. Unless they cut someone I doubt New England will be signing anyone else. So Smith should make it to Miami hopefully he doesn't make it out without signing a contract.
 
With Dan Connolly and Logan Mankins it's unlikely they could promise him a starting gig like we can. Benton has coached him when he entered the league and we have more money. On the surface we have all the advantages except first visit.
 
Word is out there that he has already made it out of New England and will meet with Dolphins.

OG Shelley Smith met with Pats officials last night and is supposed to meet with Dolphins today IF no deal with Pats. No word yet
 
The Patriots are also showing significant interest in a quality starting guard, as the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Jim Thomas reports that the Pats will meet with former St. Louis Rams guard Shelley Smith, who is visiting with the New York Giants today. The 27-year-old could still re-sign with the Rams, but it’s looking more likely that the underrated guard will sign elsewhere. If the Patriots sign him, then they would be able to release the overpaid Dan Connolly or move him to his more natural center position if they cannot re-sign Ryan Wendell.
 
I live in new england. Talk radio here says the pats are close to the cap and need to restructure some contracts to make more deals.I think we can offer more than the pats if we want this guy
