FA Middleton signs

Yeah, I though Middleton was a premier lineman.....i must be kind of wrong as he was still a FA. I think I remember last season at the time the Raiders wern't putting Robert Gallery in the line-up because Middleton was playing so well.

Barry Sims, not Robert Gallery.

That is one HUGE! arse line.

Linhan likes large OLmen, look at Minny....now can these two signings play? That's the million dollar question.

that´s right! the fact that Middleton was a free agent untill august isn`t to appealing! but reading the camp reports, he is still way better than mckinney, who obviously sucks!

PS: sorry for my english

Carey - 335 ; James - 320 ; Hadnot - 325 ;Middleton - 330 ; McDougle - 348

That's over 1600 pounds of OL. I'm liking this....

yeah, whitley's likely gone. McKinney likely stays because he was resigned for just 1 yr and cheap AND he can play both C and G. As much as many of us here have stated harshly our desire for Seth not to start, I think he'd be a great backup....that is unless he can't handle the idea of someone challenging for his C job and becoming a backup at c and both g positons and beocomes a lockerroom turd...then cut him.

of course, who knows. the coaching staff may still decided that Seth is better off as our starting C but I hope not.

As I said though..this will most likely mean that Whitley is among the the 1st group of cuts. He's been a disappointment from the go. Yep, there's still a WHOLE lot of TC to go and we've got a lot of OLine banged up or sick (basically out) right now so the simple fact that we've added 2 warm bodies and the fact they have a chance to stick is a plus....except for whitley

Hey, did I mention that Whitley will likely be among the 1st cuts of this years' TC :)

Think we might run the ball a bit with that starting line-up??? :D

Adding veteran depth to our oline doesnt sound like a bad idea to me. Specially a big guy that more than likely (obviously have to see how good middleton still is) wont be pushed into the backfield every play.

Middleton was a middle of the road starting guard, but they are a dime a dozen. I get skeptical when someone says something like "we just signed our new starting such and such, we're a better team for this signing" because let's face it, the dude has been OUT there forever unsigned. There's other teams out there that like big ugly road graters at guard, we're not the only one. Is he a better right guard than Seth McKinney, Damion Cook, or John St. Clair? I don't know that, but I doubt it.

This just came about because of Smith's injury giving us an excuse to put Hadnot back at Center where he will likely start over McKinney. McKinney may start at RG though over St. Clair, Cook, and Middleton. Jeno James isn't set to lose his starting job at LG quite yet, even though he hasn't played so well in mini-camps, and Taylor Whitley is as good as gone from this team.

  • Going in to the second week of camp allows for some evaluation. It allows teams to look at what they have and begin the process of finding players on the market to fill those needs. Vets can step right in and produce if they are in shape.
  • I think we will see many veteran FA's sign around the NFL over the next two weeks due to the above or injuries that take place.
  • Guys like Verba and Gragg that can play both guard and tackle may be of interest if the price is right.
  • FA's will have to decide if they want to keep playing they may have to come down in price.
  • One would assume Meuller is on this issue and many other spots as well. In any event it's good to see movement and action taken for change.
  • I don't assume Middleton is "the" answer but he may be part of the overall solution.

I was just reading on the Raider's web site that Middleton was released because he failed a physical. Does anybody know any more info on this?

I know he played well in Tampa when he was here, if he does have something left in the tank we are looking at a huge O-line.

I really don't have a problem with McKinney playing guard (so long as he decides that he isn't going to get pushed backwards 5 yards every time that the ball is snapped :yell: ). At least his big sweat a$$ wouldn't be getting in the way all the time.

6'3", 330lbs - the dude is a road-grader. And according to his stats, he has gotten better every year he's been in the league. Good pickup.
