FA offensive linemen who fit a zone blocking scheme (w/PFF grades)

However, I think ZBS's are soft and have trouble against physical defenses.

Like the Jets and Buffalo. Zone blocking is great when you have a one cut back who takes advantage of it. i also believe when you have smaller finesse guys you lose a lot in the pass blocking department.

Breno Giacomini is the right tackle for Seattle and becomes an unrestricted free agent in March. According to the link below, Seattle runs "a pure zone-style running game," where "Giacomini is asked to cut on the back side. The job requires sufficient quickness and ruthlessness, and Giacomini's vicious temperament always held considerable appeal to the Packers."

He was originally a 5th round pick of the Packers when Philbin was there. He's known as a nasty lineman who can really run block while being decent in pass pro. He has been responsible for four sacks each of the past two seasons. He's a guy to keep an eye on in free agency.

If he has a nasty attitude you can forget it, not if Philbin has any say...

veldheer and zane beatles and i'd be pretty happy in free agency...

on the collins front when you say he could be subject to a high tender you are not talking about restricted free agent i hope...cause if that's the case retaining him will be a no brainer for the bengals...

veldheer athletically is EXACTLY what i want in our scheme at left tackle...whether or not he can give you 16 games is another matter

Collins is not a RFA. I'm wondering what we will do on the Yeatman project as he is a RFA. He had the bad injury but, is only 26, and we have time invested. I'm thinking around a 3rd round tender to keep him in place. Think I'm going too high?

Thanks, Nice run down. We were just talking abut that at lunch. What about KC RG Asamoah (26) Grade =7.9? I thought he was a good fit but, not sure.

The guy that no one has named is probably the guy they'll go after, I hope. Jon Asamoah, extremely cheap day 1 starter at RG.

Giacomini is the other guy I think they sit down with. History with our staff and scheme tell me he's a for sure target.

Collins and Monroe are going to get bank... I doubt we even sniff their way. Look for Safford as well.

3rd round tender on yeatman if hes not exclusive rights seems right to me...charles clay if hes not exclusive also better make it at least a 2nd rounder...2nd rounder probably is the right call there...same tender pitta got from the ravens last year and no one bit on it

if you tender yeatman a 3 and he doesnt make your roster no big deal you dont have to pay his salary to my knowledge...just not sure if these guys are exclusive rights guys or not

Clay has one more year under contract at a $645,000 salary. Likely our best value of the year.

I doubt very much Oakland uses the franchise tag on Veldheer it would bring his salary
from around $1.3 million to aprox $10+ million for the franchise tag.
His cap hit if tagged would be the most on the team.

Branch leads the team with a cap hit of $7.1 million for 2014
next is Brisiel at $5.3 million
next is Burnett at $4.1 million

Maybe they re-sign him at a decent salary but to pay someone
top money($10 mill +) for someone who hasn't even made the pro bowl doesn't make sense

dollars to donuts his agent talks about not being happy with his contract and wanting an extension this offseason...

id be happy if they signed him to an extension tomorrow. hate the idea of losing that guy

In regards to zone blocking being soft --- Exactly, which may be one big factor why Miami is struggling against AFC East opponents. There are some players who are physical, but also fit as zone blockers. Those are the guys I'd go after. I think a good example would be Jake Matthews (long gone by Miami's pick) and even Taylor Lewan, who is being underrated right now after being overrated in previous years.

With the departure of Mike Sherman and likely departure of Jim Turner, who says that Lazor wants to implement a ZBS? It's not what he saw first hand in Philadelphia.
This is really one of the biggest questions for the team to work out - what O-line system will be implemented? What personnel do we need for that system?
Do we know for a fact that Philbin is 100% married to the ZBS? Maybe the departure of Sherman permits the discussion of other options.

Considering the huge turnover in lineman this year if Lazor wants to switch the scheme this would be the ideal year to do it.

Parcels and meatball had the right OL scheme for the AFCE. I am afraid that Philbin will not realize this until to late.
The ZBS is a bad idea against the DL of Buffalo, and NYJ. We are a blank slate at OL. Philbin/Hickey had better get this right.
