I would agree. Well said. He did have that one punt return but the returns deep in the end zone and then the fair catch were awful for a guy who's sole job is as a returner.

Well with all these new practice rules that they have in place now so no one gets injured you have to wonder how much real practice they get in.

Eh... all the teams play under the same rules so that excuse doesn't fly.

Thigpen has been routinely taking kickoffs out from 8 yards deep in the end zone this year. I didn't see this game as anything other than more of the same.

I feel like I'm seeing so much of that this year, though, all round the league...players taking kickoffs out from deep in the end zone. I don't get it. It was a bad decision back when teams used to kick from the 30, but it's even worse now that they're kicking from the 35 because they're 5 yards closer to you when you catch it. You're lucky to make it to the 15.

To be fair, Thigpen did have a nice 34 yd punt return in the 3rd quarter, placing the ball on the Tampa Bay 29 yd line, immediately in field goal range. Unfortunately, the Miami offense went nowhere on 3 downs, but at least we got the field goal, courtesy of Thigpen's return.

Three things led to the TB safety: First, Clemons drops an INT, then Thigpen fails to fair-catch at the 11, then...you know the rest. That whole sequence was Dolphins football in a nutshell. Good teams make plays. Dolphins = Not good team.

There is a reason Bess was in there on those last year. There is a reason we were trying out a bunch of guys at punt returning in the preseason. IMO Philbin didn't want Thigpin in that role but had no good options. IMO Philbin didn't want a lot of the guys we have playing the o-line but had no options. IMO Phibin didn't want Nolan Carrol and Jimmy Wilson playing CB but had no good options. Seeing a theme here?

Is there a player/s that Philbin has coached up during his time here?
How many players has Philbin and his coaches actually improved?

Thigpen has done bonehead things like this multiple times this year. While he gives you the nice return here and there, he runs KOs out that he shouldn't - did 2x against Cincy and 1x or possbily 2x against Tamap - announcer called him out in Cincy game saying "they had a right hand return set up and we went across the grain to the left" - getting dumped at the 10. He has no clue what do when fielding punts inside his 10. This is why they would put Bess back there for the deep in own end punts last year. So, where is the coaching? Rizzi is another loser from the Morono era.
