Favorite Dolphin draft pick ever?

Christian Wilkins was a big one for me.

It's hard to love a DT but I'm a Clemson alum and was there during the late-Bowden, early-Swinney years. Considering that I thought Wilkins might be around for a long time as a DT and that he'd been part of 2 Clemson National Championships, he sort of served as the link between my favorite college & pro teams.

Apart from that, it was definitely Tua Tagovailoa.

I was so ready to move on from Tannehill by the end that I would've been ecstatic about anyone but I really hated Justin Herbert as a prospect. To me, Tua falling to us was just kind of poetic. I certainly wouldn't have drafted him had I had a crystal ball but the reality is, I argued in favor of picking Tua for that whole offseason, LOL.

I don't know about favorite (we never draft the guys I want), but the year we drafted Olivier Vernon and Lamar Miller, I called both picks. It was the only year I was actually at a draft party, and everyone else there was a Falcons fan. I got lucky calling out those two before they happened, and refused to try to guess any others, wanting to keep my perfect record.

Obviously Dan, I became a dolphins fan as a 6 year old the season before he was drafted. But close second would be getting Zach Thomas in the fifth round

He’s not Ramsey, but he’s better than what’s out there. And I agree with letting our guys play. But I don’t think they will do that. If we are going to sign a Douglas or whoever to play for one season I prefer the guy who doesn’t have a lot of balls caught on him. I don’t understand why people think he sucks.

are you saying safety should be higher?

LOL I know I HATED that pick at the time. Especially with Brady Quinn still on the board. But looking back at that draft, it was a pretty terrible draft class and Ginn had one of the longest careers from that draft class.
I wanted Patrick Willis but

Favorite pick when it happened or now with hindsight?
Indeed. Hindsight would be Dan, but I only started following the dolphins in 89, and we didnt get any draft info till we got the internet. So for me - Tua, Long and Parker were ones that players I actually knew about.

1981, David Overstreet from Oklahoma. This guy would have been a star. What a travesty that he died so young.

Prob ZT for some reason I think a lot of us had a feeling he would be a sleeper pick. Jimmy could draft pretty well minus that one RB Avery that was horrible pick

I’m old enough to remember him. I agree he showed flashes in his first Dolphin season (1983). I agree he would have been good.

Very sad story. A handful of Dolphins died in those years - rusty chambers, Overstreet and Larry Gordon.
