FCC urged to end black out rule!

The at home experience I've found out is much better than going to the games...

HD/replay/Redzone + saving a boat load of money swings it in the favor...

And I just ended over 10 years of season tickets...
Sadly the "home experience" doesn't create revenue for the team so they need fans in the stadium. Not to forget that a "12th man" does have a impact sometimes on wins and losses. In the end, if the local fans don't show up to the stadium, they have no right to complain when a game is blacked out locally, as it should be.

No revenue for the team? You are missing the biggest revenue driver for the NFL...

TV Contracts are dependent on at home viewership....

Those billions from CBS/FOX/ESPN/NBC/Directv are split 32 ways...

And those billions are happening because people love the "home experience"...

They should just do away with stadiums and create elaborate studios to play the games. Most of the athletes think they are celebrities and divas. They get paid better than Hollywood movie stars.
Besides, the nose bleed seats are a 1/4 mile away from the action at Joe Robbie stadium. The traffic sucks. Just too expensive.
Just a bit of sarcasm.

They are going to make that money from TV contracts regardless. They lose money when the tickets don't sell. Doesn't matter if the stadium is full or not, they still get the same from CBS/FOX/ESPN/NBC and DirectTV. They are losing money when the tickets don't sell. Since they still make the TV contract money, they have no incentive to make sure the game is on TV for the local fans who choose to stay home. Ross buying the tickets up and keeping the game on TV was not a money move, that was a nice gesture by him. Ross loses revenue when the stadium is not full.

"Ratings" determine how many megabucks you get: the number of people watching. For EACH blacked-out game, the number is ZERO: NADA. Black out 1/4 of your home games, and you'll feel it. Block out half, and you'll be out of business/bleeding money...and you'll take the League down w/you eventually, along w/the players, who won't be seeing big salaries and bonuses no mo'.

Nothing happens overnight. But once a spiral starts, it's difficult to avoid a bad ending. Why do you think that EVERYONE was hoping and praying bigtime for a new CBA? No season, no money; no money, past-due bills which MUST be paid anyway; past due bills, lawsuits. And at best, all you have next season is "deja vu all over again"...w/more bitterness, and more desperation, and less willingness to compromise. Your fan base? GOOD LUCK. And good luck in another income-generated area: Team Paraphernalia. About all you might sell is voodoo dolls of the Owners, the Players, the League's personnel, and the NFLPA.

not to mention the pissed off companies who paid big $$ for ads to be on during the games, instead their ads will run during a rerun of CSI or something stupid.

They're part of the "lawsuits" category, Daytona. And don't understaestimate the SIZE of the "lawsuits" ctaegory, either: it also includes Stadium workers and vendors, restaurants and culinary employers, providers of products from culinary stuff to team paraphernalia to toilet paper for the restrooms, local government (property taxes), TV stations, Radio stations, any long-term advertisers thereon, fired employees of anybody/everybody (including each team's employees and those of the League), the FCC (if not CONGRESS itself)...!!! Do you see how gruesome this could get, economically and legally? It's unreal!

Well we wouldn't even have to complain if it wasn't a rule in the first place. Other sports don't black out because of lack of people showing up to the over priced game. Put a proper product on the field and they show up. Even then your 50% jets fans implanted from the north will buy those tickets day 1 because its their only chance to see their Bills, Jets, Pats, Eagles, Raiders, Steelers, or whoever play that week.

The blackout rule has virtually no effect on attendance. If we have an exciting team, people will show. If we dont, people wont. Its like that everywhere. Lets not pretend the Fins are a rarity in being a struggling team that has attendance issues.

I don't see myself ever buying a ticket to a game simply because it's going to get blacked out. Not remotely realistic. Start winning again and I'll show. Until then, I'll save my cash.

The only people the blackout rule hurts is the local TV stations that get to show infomercials for a few hours and the local diehards that can't afford to go to the games and don't know how to find online streams.

How are the Jaguars and other terrible teams going to build fan bases when nobody can go to a game, and the games aren't even on TV?

I can somewhat understand the purpose of the blackout... Fans, should have to buy tickets to see their team play at home.. But... Those that pay for Directv Sunday Ticket should be excluded from the blackout..
