Three – the number of times Henne found Brandon Marshall for a touchdown.
Two came in the Red Zone, the other from 29 yards out. The three touchdowns matched Marshall’s production for the entire 2010 season.
“Today is really the very first day we connected pretty well,” Henne said after the scrimmage. “We talked before practice, we communicated and we got it done today.”
That Henne and Marshall are communicating with each other and connecting in the Red Zone is good news for the Dolphins, who scored the third-fewest points in the NFL last season (17.1 per game).
Improving the Henne-Marshall connection is one of the Dolphins’ top priorities after the duo had a rough first season in 2010.
Marshall’s catch and yardage numbers were on par with his career stats – 86 catches for 1,014 yards in just 14 games – but his three touchdowns were his fewest since catching just two in 2006, his rookie season. From 2007-09, Marshall had 23 touchdown catches, and no fewer than six in a season.
“Brandon is only going to increase enthusiasm out there making plays,” Henne said.
