all i know is that i want aj feeley to be our qb and i think he deserves a fair chance to prove his worthy

You need to have experience and comfort in the system your playing before you can get a good "feel" of where your receivers are gonna be. You are a Gus homer and I don't understand why. Everyone on this board should be rooting for Feeley to succeed, cause he has more upside. I'm not saying he will succeed, just saying you shoud all be pullin for him. Even if we draft a QB next year, he won't be ready until 2008.

Dudeman said:this is what I dont get. Feeley huggers ramble on about upside. Why? You have no idea if he has upside or not. He may have maxed out his upside in Philly when he was at best average (5 TDs and 5 INTs as the starter). If he's not as good as Gus, you dont play him just to see if he has more, that would be a waste of a better QB.
As for Gus, is he throwing ducks everytime? Absolutely not. Even Bedard said that Gus was fantastic in the practices that Feeley was out. He has apparently done well in camp. Nobody is going to throw great passes 100% of the time, it just doesn't happen. Remember that duck that AJ threw against AZ that landed about 25 yards short? Boy, you must've missed that.
As for the locking on, have you not read any of the reports? EVERY SINGLE ONE mentions that fact that AJ STILL DOES IT! It has nothing to do with the system, that's a mental thing that should've been corrected in college. He has done it his entire career, and it is now his 5th year, and it still happens. Meanwhile, Gus scans the field, looks for the open man, and delivers a strike. Even Bedard remarked that there was a pass to Josh Davis, that only he (Frerotte) could've made.

I think it's obvious from his play at the end of the year, we found us a QB..Once, Feely get full grasp on Linehan's offense, He is going to rip apart defenses. The reason why he locks on to his receivers, have a lot to do with learning a new system, and playing against a very good and complicated Defense. If you could only see how much our defense changes coverages from play to play. You would lock on to you receivers sometimes too. Especially, if you had to do that while learning a new O..I think Feeley has fared well, despite all the obstacles he has to overcome. I expect by the third our fourth pre-season game, A/J. will prove to everybody why he should be the starting QB..

Both of them were pretty even, though I would give a slight edge to Feeley for the pass to Chambers and toss to Randy McMichael (would have been a 65-yard TD in a real game) on the next series. Gus was OK. Often times he completes passes on bad throws. He throws behind receivers a lot.
Gus also looked good but I think A.J. had a slight edge. Gus had some real stinkers and almost got picked off. Both led scoring drives in the red zone.
Gus Frerotte looked terrible. Only A.J. Feeley seemed to have a good day. Actually, he carried himself like a leader today. Hard to explain why I got that feeling;
After two-straight rough days, Frerotte finally outplayed Feeley, who had his worst practice.

rafael said:I think that says more about people's inability to analyze QB play. Locking on to receivers is not a factor of not knowing the system. It is a result of not having a feel for the game. He locks on not b/c he doesn't know where the receiver will end up, but b/c he can't read the D and see where the openings will be in his head. Locking on is something that QBs with feel correct after a short while not something they still do in the fifth year of practice. Everytime I hear praise for AJ it usually involves him throwing a dart. To many people that's all they analyze when it comes to QBs. He can do that, but he lacks feel so he never knows when he can just lay it in there. Very few QBs develop feel if they don't show it at least some of the time early on. AJ will not suddenly get feel just b/c he learns the system (although reports are he isn't real bright so that may take a while too). I heard one media (not PFT)report that said that despite the public face (everything is even) that the coaches are groaning when they watch tape of AJ. My guess is that they'll keep saying open competiton to keep the pressure on, but that Gus (although not great by any means) is already the starter in the coach's mind.

GoonBoss said:I've not been to camp, or anything, but, I wager....If Gus is our starter, this season is a wash. I'm not trying to be funny, or obtuse....You just kinda have to know that.
I'd like to win....But, dang....Ferotte?
