FH Forum vs The Media

My cousin's nephew's neighbor's brother-in-law once sold a '78 Pinto to a man who was best friends with the father of a guy who owned a dog that peed on Ross' regular caddy at the country club.

Does that count?

If your username is enduro then absolutely. Otherwise, no!

If i would guess we could have father's of players........... players & reporters all looking in on the forum to see what were saying.
But i dont think they will give themself away & say who they are on our board........or have they.

They do get all the news here fast.. only site I go to for dolphin news. Only thing that would make it better is if there was a hide sigs feature to use at work for some of the less tasteful pics.

No problem, we have that. Go to Settings in the upper right corner of the website. Then, go to General Settings on the left. Scroll down to Thread Display Options, where you can turn of sigs, avatars, and/or images. You can also adjust how many posts you see on a thread page amongst other ways you can personalize the website.

Yeah, when I see or hear "Breaking News" on Miami, I click on to the forum, and see it's already been posted twice with 20 or more comments. lol

Two different roles. The local media guys really can't do what we see here, dissecting players in the aftermath of every game. There would be tension in the locker room and complaints from the organization. Those writers would be all but blackballed.

It's never fully appreciated here that the reporters have an extremely difficult balancing act. I always have to laugh when they are criticized. They have a responsibility to the readers but they also need to remain viable at their jobs. Sources shut up and won't return your calls if you are viewed as nothing but a negative hack. If you rip the players and coach to the point you get that reputation, it's frosty when you walk into any room associated with the organization. The interviews are brief and you won't get called to ask questions. Don't think for a second that Dawn Aponte doesn't have a favorite list and a hit list. Certain guys get preferential treatment, based on how close they are to Dolphin Digest level.

BTW, there is one long held media technique that needs to be emphasized. When a reporter wants to disguise his own opinion as someone else's he'll default to vague descriptions like "AFC East scout" or "former general manager," stuff like that. Often those quotes never came from anyone. It's the writer panning it off, not wanting the risk attached directly to his name.

A columnist would have the most leeway in damning critiques. But those guys are considered the pea****s of the industry so they think it's beneath them to spend too much time on personnel analysis as opposed to big picture enlightenment. Likewise they love that they no longer have to spend any time trying to break stories, which is traditionally the grunt work reserved for newcomers. I concede that in this new instant age the breaking news sources have attained greater appreciation. But mostly it's like an internet ponzi scheme. The guys who appear to be first aren't really first. They may be 5000th or lower...merely quicker than anyone else on that particular venue. I'm glad that it never matters to me because I don't mind hearing things 6 or 18 hours later, like the old days. I don't seem to suffer.
