Fiedler Top Backup?

adamprez2003:

If it's all about defense, explain why the awesome Baltimore D hasn't led Kyle Boller to post up a far superior win % than what Jay had. Until you can, that argument means nothing to me.

exactly. and how come, when jay went down and we'd start ray lucas or brian greise, we'd lose?

Why did we lose with Ray Lucas? You've got to be kidding me.

As for Brian Griese - Do you honestly think Fiedler wouldv'e pulled out a victory against the Colts with the way Wade Smith was playing

Ray Lucas is easy -- he stank.

Brian Griese really is difficult to explain if you're trying to bash Jay.

The receivers the Dolphins had were better than the ones Boller has had. The Ravens will be in the playoffs this year and the reason is the recieivers they picked up, coupled with the defense and running game

You say the receivers were better. The stats don't bear that out. Travis Taylor is arguably Chris Chambers. He was finally showing signs of breaking out until Boller took over and stunk up the place. Marcus Robinson's stats perked up higher last year with the Vikings than they were with the Ravens even though Marcus was the #3 receiver for the Vikings and the #2 guy with the Ravens. Heap didn't play much last year, but he was every bit as good as McMichael ever has been prior to Boller starting. Is it a coincidence that both Heap's and Taylor's stats went down from 2002 to 2003 when Boller took over?

I'll also point out that Boller has had a better running game behind him than Jay had for years 1, 2, or 4 of his four years of solid starts. He got over 2000 yards from the ground game in 2003 and over 1700 from the ground game in 2004.

You people complain about Fiedler, but he outperformed 1st round graded talent in situations where that talent hasn't even worn out its welcome yet.

rohan davey is the best backup in the league.

Rohan Davey has done exacly NOTHING as an NFL player. The Patriots are so convinced of Davey's future immortality that they signed Doug Flutie as insurance...

Then again you're the guy who spent a week calling Dan Marino over rated so, you'll excuse me if I think your quarterback analysis is somewhat flawed...

The only argument people make when defending Fiedler is his won loss percentage. With the defense Miami gave him that's an irrelevent argument. Fuad Reviez could have been the QB and gotten a similar winning percentage with the teams Fiedler played on. Here are his lifetime stats and they are the statistics of a putrid QB.

This is exactly the reason nobody should pay any attention at all to what you're saying. Fuad Reviez? You're ridiculous and your ridiculous exaggeration doesn't disprove the results Fiedler achieved as our QB. You simply can't compete in the NFL with a trash QB, regardless of how good the defense was..........and please, let's not start complementing this defense too much knowing the propensity it had to fold in big games.

Travis Taylor is arguably Chris Chambers? Only if the argument is preceeded by the ingestion of a keg of beer

No receivers

Who did Jay have? Chambers??? Don't even tell me Randy McMichael because Boller has Heap so that cancels that out. Les we not forget Boller's got twice the O-line play we do.

Don't bother trying to explain yourself to that kid.......... just the fact that he thinks Fuad Reviez could've quarterbacked our team let's you know just who you're talking to.

I had 7 backup QBs rated higher than Fiedler. I dont have him as the 60th best QB out there but I also don't have him in the top 30. My point here is to quash this lovefest regarding his abilities. He was never more than a backup that we got stuck with as our starter. It's not his fault. it's Wanny's and managements

Travis Taylor put up 61 catches for 869 yards in his best year despite having to contend with a run first offense. The mighty Jeff Blake was his QB that year.

Chris Chambers put up 64 catches for 963 yards in his best year even though he did so with a less potent run first offense than what the Ravens had that year.

I know it's not fashionable to act as though Chris Chambers is anything other than the next Randy Moss around here, but the stats are pretty darn clear. To the extent you can argue that QB or the running game limited Chambers, you have to argue the same for Taylor.
