Finally, Cortland Finnegan's contract numbers

Andrew Abramson ‏@AbramsonPBP 20s

Even on what is basically a 1 year deal, a lot of money to give Finnegan, who hasn't had a good season since '11 and will compete w/Taylor.
Dolphins could've kept Patterson for same money. They were either more worried about Patterson's health, think Finnegan is is better or both

You think 3.5m guaranteed is alot?

ha ha listening to jets fans on yes calling in bitching about drc signing with the giants instead of them...not a one of them smart enough to know that it doesnt matter what they do they dont have a qb and so they are wasting their time...

this michael kay show blows by the way

just for comparison...career stats...

Grimes - 314 total tackles, 0 sacks, 73 pass def., 17 ints, 1 TD, 1 forced fumble in 7 seasons
Finnegan - 601 total tackles, 7 sacks, 78 pass def., 18 ints, 4 TDs, 4 forced fumbles in 8 seasons

they're also both the same age....not sure why everyone is complaining. I got nothing wrong with this signing.

Does any body know what year CF had his thigh injury? I had seen somewhere, SS I think, that his hamstring had been separated completely from the bone. I would think that would take a while to come back from.idk for sure but might help explain his really poor year last year. I know his broken orbit landed him on ir, but maybe the hammy was not 100%.

2013 he was hurt
2012 he had over 100 tackles,1 sack,1 forced fumble and 3 interceptions...AWFUL???

Well Grimes was looking pretty wonky on one rim.... - Oh wait............. LOL

Doubt that somehow there were better corners went off the market yesterday that were a bigger loss

Finnegan could work out well but its a long shot he was really bad last year worryingly so

Grimes had me worrired too

If your CB has 100 tackles somebody is catching a lot of passes in his area.....stats only show some of the story, I didn't see him play last yr or the yr before so I can't say how poor he played

And of the poor corners we've had here through the years (and there's numerous to choose from) how many had 100 tackles in a season? That tells me he's a monster tackler in the pass and run game because you don't have that many tackles in 4 or 5 games.

The sum of all of this is this is clearly who the coaching staff and hickey wanted because clearly there were bigger "names" that they could've had, but they wanted him. Before everyone poo poos it because Armando and PFF said so, let's see how it plays out.

i wish it was that simple...take that back...it should be that simple...if we could just cut him then and walk away with no financial loss etc...but we didn't go about it that way...sure looks to me like we are stuck with finnegan come hell or high water in 2014...lock that in your 53 for good or bad

gms don't like to admit it if/when they screw up...we've seen plenty of evidence of that around here

question for ya hoops....what's his role gonna be? are we looking at our #2 guy? or is he coming in to be more of a nickel cb? is that something that will be determined in camp?

It's essentially a 1 yr prove it deal doesn't really impact on cap space much this year since we were in a good spot so who cares. He will hopefully add some LEADERSHIP & along with Grimes mentor Taylor & Davis.

I hope he works out. However like has been said, there were younger, healthier, probably better guys available that signed for similar money or even less.

Also I am confused with the salary cap of the Patriots. How do they have over 16 million left under the cap when after they signed Revis they were only 5.5 million under. Then they signed Browner, Edleman and Lafell. They restructured Tommy Kelly freeing up an extra 800k. Like I said now it has been reported that they have over 16 million to spend. So are there different rules for them, do they actually get more cap room after signing players? Something just doesn't add up here.

Money would have been better used signing Mike Collins RT for 6M a year and then drafting J. Gilbert CB in the first round. The odds of success in my opinion would have been much higher and better for the cap long term. I think this risk will haunt Hickey in the long run if he does not get the whole line fixed and our pass defense continues to suffer like last year. Why Gamble this much when you dont need to. Thats a move I dont like. I do like all his other moves.

the mentor things overrated...you have brent grimes who can mentor and be that veteran presence for the young guys to look up to...i wouldn't be ok paying $5.5 mil for a mentor anyways...just got to hope the guys got top 3 corner solid play stuff left in him...end of story

and the peyton maninng thing...really...taking a chance on a franchise caliber qb who can by himself flip your outlook and a wrong side of 30 corner coming off a dismal year is not the same thing...at all[/QUOTE
You must have missed the part about the SIX neck surgeries and the muscle weakness/atrophy he was experiencing. Manning was a huge gamble at the time.

he has been horrible the past two years, so I wouldn't bet much money on him all of a sudden reverting to his probowl self.
Not sure how or why he got the money he got. If he reverts to probowl form will be a great deal but he did nothing to even get a deal like Grimes got last year.
No worse than resigning Carrol but a lot more expensive

yall act like its your money. who cares how much he makes..
