Finnegan: I've never seen an offense as fast as Miami's

I think we tried to go up-tempo especially early in the season going back to philbins first season, but because we couldn't execute and would find ourselves in too many early 3 and outs, we kind of just went away from it because it was hurting the defense. But there is no reason the entire offense should be more polished this season, hopefully allowing us to execute on early downs to keep the uptempo going.
 
I liked Al's offensive philosophy. Instead of taking what the defense gives you, take what you want.

If they stayed statis quo with our OC I'd agree with you but there was a change made because the OC failed to live up to what was promised. I'll give Lazor a chance before I would agree with the same old-same old attitude.

I agree that on paper, we're in a better position. But before, we used to have Keller and a healthy Gibson. Now Keller is gone and Gibson is slow to recover from the injury, we can't expect a lot from him, it will be up to Matthews and Landry. Defenses will try to take Clay away because he's our one good TE.

It's going to be tricky. We're either going to get the timing and execution down right, or we're not and the windows of opportunity will close up - defenses will stuff the run and harass Clay. Combine that with continued struggle with the deep ball and it won't be pretty. But Lazor is doing the right thing by moving pieces around and seeing if we can get the most out of our roster. Wallace will move around, we'll use more 2 TE sets, we'll run the ball, we'll toss it to Moreno. We'll get max out of what we have.

One characteristic of Bill Lazor’s offense is a lot of pre-snap motion, but Philbin explained this week there are positives and minuses to that approach: “If you’re stationary and you’re sitting at the line of scrimmage and your ducks are in a row as we like to say, it’s a little bit easier from an offensive perspective, but you’re not challenging the defense probably as much. There is give and take. I think, as a coaching staff, we have to examine whether all of this motion and shifting a detriment or is it a benefit? And what’s the right blend and what’s the right balance.”

To me, it sounded like Finnegan was talking more about the actual player speed as opposed to the tempo :)

Fast tempo + Fast weapons = Touchdowns = Wins = Playoffs :)

What's this "we" and the "staff?" Let Bill Lazor decide if motion is a detriment or benefit. You're the head coach, stop micromanaging.

Someone needs to tell Joe that he's 7-9 and 8-8 and got blown out the last two games of the season. Let Lazor run the offense the way he was hired to. ANYTHING is a "benefit" if it makes you better than last year and stops defenses from teeing off on your quarterback, and hitting your RB's for a loss.

Maybe the team concept is foreign to you. Lazor may run the offense but he cannot run it by himself.

By the way, micromanaging is what head coaches do.

You're right, and the best hope i can give anything with this team at this juncture is cautiously optimistic. With that said, the past few years we knew not to really believe what was being sold to us because of the track records of our OC's. Lazor worked with Chip Kelly who knows how to conduct an uptempo offense, so that does give me some hope that our offense can incorporate uptempo.
 
I really think the AFC east is going to be really competitive. If our run defense and oline hold up, I really think we have a chance.
 
I'll believe it when I see it on the field, during a real game.

True, but remember that Keller had. Season ending injury in preseason so he didn't even play a snap of a regular season game as a Dolphin. And, Gibson went down for the year around game 6 I think, so we played 2/3 of the year without him and our offense struggled.

The WCO is built around short passes and our flavor always featured the slot receiver. So without Gibson and Keller filling that underneath role, our short passing game struggled.

Even with Gibson not yet fully healed he projects to play more than 6 games this year (knock on wood).

Lazor's offense uses the versatility of the TE to facilitate mismatches elsewhere. That's why we drafted Lynch, he is competent at all phases (run blocking, pass protection, blitz pickup, running routes, finding soft spots in zones, presenting a big target in the red zone, etc.). This allows Lazor to change formations and take advantage of defensive situational substitutions.

We will make our share of mistakes, but this hold be a very fun offense to watch this year.
