Oof. I was one of the folks quite happy Carroll was gone, but at this point am praying either Taylor plays out or Finnegan was hopelessly injured. Either way, our Cb2 is a TERRIFYING and unpredictable position right now.
Not a fan of the price on him. Hickey might of got bested.
It won't be popular, but if the numbers of this deal being reported are true, this is the single worst deal in free agency thus far for any team. Courtland Finnegan has a reputation for tough and physical, but in reality he hasn't been either for a few years now. Last year he was amongst the worst corners in all of football and was terrible. You can read the PFF numbers, you can watch the tape and you can read what respected football evaluators are saying and it all leads to the same conclusion: He was terrible last year.
His injuries did not cause him to get toasted up and down the field last season. His injuries did not cause him to lose the ability to change directions at an NFL level. Through the first three games last season this gave was giving up a perfect QB rating against (in other words, you can't be worse). He ended the year equally terrible in the slot and outside.
To expect a guy like this to all of a sudden turn it around in his age 30 season is folly. As I always say, you have to look at the opportunity cost of any move, and the opportunity cost of this deal is immense if the numbers reported are accurate.
I would have been unhappy if we had signed this progress stopping, declining player for the veteran minimum. To hear these numbers is mind boggling.
