Finnegan signs with Miami

Not sure if Miami is attempting for "Lightning in a Bottle", Again. I hope he can show, he still can play at a higher level than he did over the last few years in STL. I'm a bit confused by the Finnegan signing, I guess because I was expecting or hoping for someone else to be signed. I'm hopeful he'll actually be Brent Grimes 2.0 and come in and at the very least play well in whatever role he his ticketed to have in the defense. I'll admit; I'm excited about his work ethic and film study habits. Those types of habits rub off on others and can make other players better, just by watching and learning from Finnegan. Lets hope for the best and Finnegan lives up to his former self on the field on Sundays.

Quick rant/post after reading.

We have the cap so who cares and we know it's not 11 million guaranteed. But if it was...I would be fine. The defense needs some backfield attitude. For 5mil per year I would love the opposing team's number 1 or 2 wide receiver and Finn to get ejected every game, this is football! We all know we will sign/draft/promote another who cares give me someone who is good off the field but serious on the field attitude that we have been lacking!!! I love this signing not because of what he might possibly do, it's for what we know he will do which is:
Study film
Veteran leadership
Help our current and new/if any DB's
Not take **** on the field
Teach our new guys how not to take **** but give it.
Disrupt opposing rythms.

I really do not see how guys oppose this. Great tenacity and swag, worth the money on defense even if he only plays several times a game to bring life back in our defense when were back against the wall, without the swag/tenacity we have seen the come backs way to much. JMHO

The Rams should be happy about Cortland Finnegan's Miami deal because of the offset language with the $3M roster bonus their paying him.

5'10" 179lbs? dont we have like 3 of these already?

Not with his mindset.....we haven't had that in years (decades)

Every team needs a fighter or fighters...........for petes sake how do you think the Jets are always in it with scrubs?????????? SWAG and TENACITY we have more talent but a couple of ass lighters during the game is needed!

Edit: To be humble, this is at worst case a drive/discipline contract.

IMO

Drive = Never give up fight your ass off on the field and talk whatever you need to, get in their heads and hopefully be productive or throw them off their game.

Discipline = Study film know your opponent and teach others their tendencies.

Why isn't rotoworld trashing the Pats for signing a PED product like Browner for more money than we are paying Finnegan who when healthy is a far better player?

Trash who? Never.

I can link you a half dozen articles praising the Falcons for letting Grimes walk because they guaranteed he could never be the same player. If "everything you read" was true then the NFL would be a very different place.

While you are spot on pointing out the fact that the NFL would be a very different place if all written material was true, it is also true that free agency isn't usually the secret to winning. There is a reason why St. Louis doesn't want the guy back. The fact of the matter is that Finnegan is a Dolphin now and I'm rooting hard for him to wreak havoc in the secondary.

incorrect. see my post a couple of pages back detailing his stellar 2012 season. he was injured last year and broke his leg in game 4.

Eh, no disrespect intended but I'll take the word of the Rams fan that watches every Rams game that took the time to come here and give the scoop on Finnegan. As I said previously, Finnegan is a Fin now and I'm going to root like hell for him.

Cortland Finnegan wasn't guaranteed a starting spot by the Dolphins and that's a wise decision because Miami

invested two early picks into Jamar Taylor and Will Davis. If Finnegan is to be anything more than a progress starter he'll need to prove himself on the practice field by outshining the youngsters.

If he's the player he was two years ago that shouldn't be hard. But there are no guarantees on that.

As for Taylor and Davis, both need to get stronger and learn how to study film. They also need to learn what it takes to become a professional athlete. Having Brent Grimes and Finnegan around should help them.

If I were Miami I'd still be trying to re-sign Dimitri Patterson and have him compete for playing time, if not the nickel role.

Imagine a starting secondary that features Grimes, Finnegan and Patterson?
