If you look at it through the draft, FA, & trade we have made mostly upgrades, obviously there is some other positions we could still focus on but I'm happy with the direction we are going.
QB:
Henne
Moore
Devlin - potential
- No upgrade at the position but I know the new OC is an upgrade which I hope should help Henne if not hopefully Moore can return to form from 2009.
(I'll discuss my agreement for not making the Orton trade)
RB:
Bush
Thomas
Grigsby
- Our rushing was awful last year so we went faster & younger & have someone that can take it the distance from anywhere on the field.
TE:
Fasano
Clay
- Personally I like Fasano he had a career year last season & is a solid blocker. Clay brings more athleticism & speed. I know they are saying his head is spinning some now but that's why they have training camp.
WR:
Marshall
Bess
Hartline
Gates
- Not much of a need for an upgrade, you can argue Hartline but we have 2 studs in Marshall & Bess. We added a deep threat in Gates & maybe he can take Hartlines spot if he struggles.
OL:
Long
Incognito
Pouncey
Carey
Columbo/Murtha/Garner - or someone not on roster
- Awful run blocking last year, added Pouncey & moved Carey to G which I think he is better suited for. Obvious concern is RT but hopeful there is a plan or that Columbo has some left in the tank.
DL:
Solai
Starks
Langford
Edrick
Merling
McDaniel
Fields
- Having Merling & Odrick back healthy to an already impressive line is amazing. Also you know Nolan hand picked Fields to back up Solai from his 49ers/Broncos days.
LB:
Wake
Dansby
Burnett
Misi
Taylor
Edds
- Strong group of LB's then add a veteran presence like JT it's a great fit. Burnett is better than Crowder & Edds was the best cover LB in the draft last year so now that he's recovered from his injury he should be ready to help in the nickel package.
DB:
Davis
Smith
Clemons
Bell
Jones
Allen
Wilson
- Like the LB's its a strong group already but getting Allen back to play nickel and the development of Jones and add the camp Wilson is having they are looking good.
The QB situation: I'm happy the trade for Orton was NOT made I would rather save the money & draft pick on a true franchise QB if Henne or Moore don't work out this season. Plus Henne has a better record than Orton the last 2 years. Henne 14-17 & Orton 10-19 (4-11 last 15 games). Plus last year we played the 2 Super Bowl teams and beat Green Bay in Green Bay and 1 HORRIBLE call away from beating the Steelers.
