Fire Ireland.. Hire Pioli

Nobody's saying Pioli is perfect far from it, but he was a big factor in New England winning Super Bowls. Maybe it was a combination of Belichek and Pioli picking the players. I'm not for or against him. If we get him fine, if we don't fine, just get somebody. Jeff Ireland has had 6 years and I don't think we're any better. Here is an old article from his New England days:

I wrote this in another thread, I guess I'll repeat it specifically in a thread about Pioli. Pioli was awful. Half the Chiefs' staff, from the janitors to the marketing people to the personnel department to the coaching staff were either fired, or quit under Pioli. He was accused of bugging offices. Hiring private security to sniff through staffers e-mails searching for hints of "disloyalty". The Chiefs were sued 3-times for wrongful termination by employees while Pioli was GM. He was at war with the coaches. He forbid staffers whose windows faced the practice field from opening their blinds while practice was ongoing, because he didn't trust them enough to watch practice! Security would make rounds during practice to enforce the rule. The guy is a first-class megalomaniac and a crappy GM. Pioli was hated in KC. Chiefs' fans had the long knives out for that petty tyrant. Go ask some.

If you think he drafted well in KC you're wrong. His 2009 draft was an unmitigated disaster. He spent a 2011 first-round pick on a receiver that they got rid of 2-years later! He drafted a DE with the third pick in 2009, Tyson Jackson, he has 9 sacks in 5-years! He traded Tony Gonzalez for a second-round pick that became Javier Arenas, another player that is no longer on their roster. Pioli told people Gonzalez only had a couple good years left, 5 years later he's still at a near All-Pro level. He gave up a second-round pick for Matt Cassell, then gave the guy $60 mil., an inexcusable act considering Pioli knew more about Cassell then anyone from his days in the Patriots' front office. He cut Bernard Pollard, then brought in washed up linebackers like Zach Thomas and Mike Vrabel. His coaching hires were unfathomably bad.

And this idea that Pioli built the present Chiefs roster is just laughable. Jamaal Charles, Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, Dwayne Bowe, Brandon Albert, Dustin Colquitt, Brandon Flowers were Carl Peterson draft picks. Eric Fisher, Alex Smith, Akem Jordan, Mike DeVito were Andy Reid guys. The only Pro Bowler Pioli drafted was Eric Berry and how much credit should he get for drafting him with the 5th pick? Ireland on his worst day is a better GM than Pioli and I'd like to launch Ireland off of Cape Kennedy. Pioli wasted 2 of his 4 first-round picks and 2 of his second-round picks. Another second-round pick, WR Dexter McCluster, has 5 TDs and 1500-yards receiving in 4-years! He's been killing it hasn't he? You might want to perform some due diligence on this guy before touting him for GM of the Dolphins.

Nearly every single front office person or assistant that leaves Belichick fails spectacularly (Weiss, Crennel, McDaniel, Mangini 2X, Schwartz, Pioli) with the exception of Saban and Dimitrioff, so by a simple induction, I can conclude that it is Belichick whose genius is really accountable for that team's success. Belichick has drafted spectacularly without Pioli (Vollmer, Vereen, Gronk, Hernandez, McCourty, Spikes, Ridley, Mallet, Chanlder Jones, to say nothing of the trade for Talib.) Compare that to what Pioli drafted on his own in KC. In fact, Thomas Dimitrioff, who was the Pats' director of college scouting from 2003-2007, and is now the GM of the Falcons, has a far superior record to Pioli's. You could make the common sense assumption that Pioli had less to do with the Patriots' acquisition of talent then either Belichick or Dimitrioff.

That may be but evidently they are not as good, they have not won a Super Bowl since he left have they? If they have I don't remember it. They may this year but I doubt it.

For the umpteenth time, you do realize that Pioli is Bill Parcells' son in law. This is a fact. If we get Pioli, it would effectively be letting the turd in via the backdoor (crude but appropriate analogy). Pioli was in New England and then Kansas City but make no mistake, he is still a disciple of all of the Parcells football theories. Rule #1 - when in doubt always draft cornfed linemen. Rule #7 Never use higher than a 3rd round draft pick on a Tight End. #Rule 27 (c) Avoid drafting or recruiting WR playmakers with questionable diva tendencies - ask if mother was a prostitute. Rule 328 (d) see rule #1 - when in doubt always draft cornfed linemen.
Ireland is better than you think. Appointing Pioli would waste time, easier to give Ireland another year.
