First Interview for GM Friday

Couldn't it also mean that Aponte or Philbin will be heavily involved and possibly have final say so? It could mean a lot of things none of which any of us know yet...

They aren't accepting resumes. Shame, I wanted to move back to Florida.

Speculation on my part, but it sounds like Highsmith is one of the first guys on the list. Also sounds like he REALLY wants the job (as I said earlier)

Also based on what Garfinkle has said about what they want in a GM, I'm guessing it's either Gamble or Highsmith

That screams to me that they want someone who strongly believes in incorporating analytics into player evaluation.

By God they must be getting ready to interview Shouright then. He's the master of analytics!

He wants the job even with big bad Dawn still in the building?

I have no issue with him or Gaine being hired.

Hate to have to point this out, but when hiring a General Manager, the Rooney Rule applies. Highsmith deserves an interview, but this might be part of the reason to interview him.

From Miami, went to Da U, has a son that just finished with the Canes, and another son that was with us in camp. Also really close with Joe.

But think about what Garfinkle said
1.Previous GM experience not a deal breaker
2.Must be creative and outside the box thinker (Highsmith comes from Green Bay which isn't traditional in their picks, and Gamble comes from SanFran/Philly both doing their own thing)
3.Must be willing to be part of a team (Green Bay and Philly/SanFran both fit that mold)

I think the interest in Highsmith is legit. He makes sense as a candidate.

In his own mind.

I think we absolutely need to bring in a GM who uses a balanced approach -- traditional film study and scouting, combined with statistical analysis.

As long as we bring in someone who isn't a certifiable moron, that is a GREAT approach.

He's an up and comer that also deserves an interview regardless of the stupid Rooney rule.

for sure, but he's an attractive candidate that fits the mold of what Ross reportedly wants.

I think Gamble is the guy Ross wants for sure, but for various reasons it wouldn't shock me if Highsmith is the guy

The best thing about Highsmith is he will bring all the notes from GBays superior scouting for an almost identical offense to ours.

Jason La Canfora opines that Ross might want Gamble as an attempt to get Harbaugh (Harbaugh is currently embroiled in an ugly power struggle with Baalke in SF).

Take that for what it's worth. I think it's more likely that Harbaugh spoke highly of Gamble when Ross was courting him for the job, and the name stuck in Steve's mind, but something to consider.
