For over five years now Miami has had a big gaping hole at the right tackle spot. The team has been looking for Carey's replacement since the 2010 season. He played at the gaurd spot in 2011 so Marc Colombo could play right tackle. Am sure we all remember how well that worked out. Hickey comes in and do the most unpopular thing by fixing the problem but you people are not happy. He finished what he started and now we can all move on to more better and exciting thing. Its funny, a coworker asked me just after the Lions pick who I thought Miami would draft, I replied "a tackle because they need it." He agreed and when the pick was in, I was happy with it.

Hopefully he fixed the problem. Now this kid has to prove he is the fix.

I don't have a problem with the player but where he was taken. I am pretty confident nobody else was going to take him in the first and based on the trading activity behind us it appears that we could have easily moved back and picked the same player and an extra pick.

At the end of the day if James turns out to be a bust the whole crew will be fired in a couple of years. If James turns out to be a player we will all be happy our tackle problems are fixed and we won't care where he was picked much like Pouncey.

A lot of people don't understand that what if we had traded back n someone jumped us to draft James?

It remains to be seen if the RT spot is fixed or not. If James turns out to be a bust, then it isn't fixed and the problem will remain.

And who really knows with 100% certainty that we had any reasonable trade offers? Just because a couple teams after us traded up doesn't mean they were offering sufficient value to jump into the 19th slot.

I feel that if liked him enough to fill a large void rhen it was the right pick. Gambling with a need and want pick is foolish. I want to hear the facts of the trade down offer speculation before I slap Hickey.

Sorry, sloppy technique guys who can't run block or even down field block and have poor work ethic and no power can be had in round 3. This pick is on par with picks like Phillip Merling and Jason Allen. Sure, they had the measureables, they just were not good picks.

Well, i too wanted to trade down if possible but we did get the best pure RT in the draft. The other guys were all LT but James started 49 games so I'm not upset. Now I want a LB and a TE plus a guard and depth

I sure hope he does better than fellow Vol, Dallas Thomas did last year. Maybe Thomas will develop and play much better this year.

Poor evaluation of James there. He's a very good RT, not sloppy at all. Very good at pass pro and needs to develop more at run blocking though. Nothing wrong with his work ethic either. Butch Jones doesn't put up with that crap. James was recruited to Bama first, but switched to be a vol last minute. He's always been good.

You're doing what too many Miami fans always do regarding the draft: justifying mistakes. There's nothing about James that makes him a "can't miss" or even close to a "can't miss." That said, like many have said, I'm not unhappy with the player; I'm unhappy with the value. He's not #19 talent, especially in a draft as deep as this. I think there's a very good chance he, or someone very near his talent level, would have been there when we picked in the 2nd.

Football is a lot like poker in that you can't just play your own hand, you have to play your opponents' hands as well. James was nowhere close to BPA when we picked him, and given the number of needs this team has, we should have gotten much better value for the pick. Yes, we needed a right tackle, but we didn't ONLY need a right tackle.

If you wanted Zach Martin to come in and play RT, James is the better option.

That's not to say James is a great pick - just that Martin was very overrated as a RT prospect.

Interesting quote from Bill Polian the other day. To paraphrase, if you trade down 5 places in the first round, there is about a 90% chance that the player you want won't be there.

im not too sure this guy is the "fix". he showed up to the combine "flabby" and had an offensive line worst 22 reps at the combine. shows me hes weak and fat. not good
